{"id":7236,"date":"2010-05-13T02:43:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-13T02:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/steady-sailing-for-princess-cruises-2\/"},"modified":"2010-05-13T02:43:00","modified_gmt":"2010-05-13T02:43:00","slug":"steady-sailing-for-princess-cruises-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2010\/05\/steady-sailing-for-princess-cruises-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Steady sailing for Princess Cruises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>by Daisy Melwani, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etravelblackboard.com\/\">etravelblackboard.com <\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p>Princess Cruises\u2019 CEO &#038; President, Alan Buckelew has told guests attending the 2010 Partnership Summit that the cruise line sailed through steady waters in 2009, opting for consistency onboard its ships through a new revitalization scheme.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princess.com\/images\/global\/book\/ships\/DP.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princess.com\/images\/global\/book\/ships\/DP.jpg\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Calling cost management procedures in place in 2009 \u201csuperb\u201d, Mr Buckelew claimed every department contributed toward ensuring protection was made toward its product and crew, and continues to do so in 2010.  Revenue forecast in the first quarter of 2009 was apparently down some US$350 million.<\/p>\n<p>The outcome so far has been a more loyal passenger base, according to Mr Buckelew, who said cost savings were able to fund all of its new Grand Class revitalizations which amount to some US$30 million per ship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe looked at service recovery in 2009, and in this time of challenge we made investments to our crew and upgrades on our product,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>New innovations including pre-cruise emails, e-documentation and the formation of eZAir \u2013 a GDS style airline booking engine, are expected to be rolled out in coming months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are the consummate host, which is part of our brand,\u201d Princess Cruises Executive VP, Sales, Marketing &#038; Customer Service, Jan Swartz said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to be the easiest cruise line to work with (for the trade).  We will continue to roll out new innovations in the next few months to make the travel agents\u2019 life easier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Swartz outlined Princess\u2019 strategy in Australia and New Zealand was to penetrate the market for more bookings on its international deployments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the main things is how air is handled in this market, so hopefully eZAir will help open up distribution,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of agencies that haven\u2019t yet seen how lucrative the cruising market is, so we need to make distribution aware with detailed instruction and training.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citing the \u2018richest\u2019 loyalty program in the industry, Princess Cruises are said to be looking at ways to also improve upon its scheme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Daisy Melwani, etravelblackboard.com Princess Cruises\u2019 CEO &#038; President, Alan Buckelew has told guests attending the 2010 Partnership Summit that the cruise line sailed through steady waters in 2009, opting for consistency onboard its ships through a new revitalization scheme.
