{"id":7052,"date":"2011-02-03T23:24:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-03T23:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/qantas-to-lift-fuel-surcharges-2\/"},"modified":"2011-02-03T23:24:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-03T23:24:00","slug":"qantas-to-lift-fuel-surcharges-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2011\/02\/qantas-to-lift-fuel-surcharges-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Qantas to lift fuel surcharges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelmole.com\/\">Travelmole<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Qantas is to increase its international fuel surcharges in response to rising oil and fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Alan Joyce announced the increases during a speech at the Melbourne Press Club today.<\/p>\n<p>The extra surcharges will range between $20 and $50 one-way.<\/p>\n<p>Qantas said it was the first such increase since January 2008 and follows a move by other airlines, including Singapore Airlines and British Airways, who have increased fuel surcharges this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t do this lightly, and it comes after four fuel surcharge decreases over the past three years,\u201d Joyce said.<\/p>\n<p>Joyce added that while the Australian dollar has appreciated by six percent over the past four months, jet fuel prices have risen by around 24 percent.<\/p>\n<p>He said low-cost subsidiary Jetstar would address the fuel price issue via \u201cselective changes to air fares and increases in ancillary revenue, including baggage charges\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Travelmole Qantas is to increase its international fuel surcharges in response to rising oil and fuel prices.
