{"id":6558,"date":"2009-06-01T01:13:00","date_gmt":"2009-06-01T01:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/margan-white-label-semillon-what-a-classic\/"},"modified":"2009-06-01T01:13:00","modified_gmt":"2009-06-01T01:13:00","slug":"margan-white-label-semillon-what-a-classic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2009\/06\/margan-white-label-semillon-what-a-classic\/","title":{"rendered":"MARGAN WHITE LABEL SEMILLON \u2013 WHAT A CLASSIC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Wc1Jun09<\/p>\n<p>david ellis<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/SiMrSXXZ5pI\/AAAAAAAAGgo\/SfH4mUQLdys\/s1600-h\/2007+Semillon-724983.jpg\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342161177501361810\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/SiMrSXXZ5pI\/AAAAAAAAGgo\/SfH4mUQLdys\/s320\/2007+Semillon-724983.jpg\" \/><\/a>MARGAN Family Winemakers in the Hunter valley have just released their 2007 single vineyard White Label Semillon, a drop that&#8217;s classic Hunter Semillon down to its bootstraps.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s White Label wines have never failed to appeal to true aficionados, being made in quite limited volumes from only those vintages that winemaker, Andrew Margan deem to be &#8220;just right&#8221; \u2013 in this case dry and hot with the fruit picked at low baume to create that classic Hunter-style Semillon.<\/p>\n<p>And interestingly while the majority of Margan&#8217;s White Label wines come from single vineyards in the volcanic Broke Fordwich area, this one was sourced from the 70 year old dry-land Belford Vineyard in the more alluvial creek country of Belford a little distance away.<\/p>\n<p>It is a wonderfully smooth and easy-drinking wine with fine citrus flavours upfront, and in traditional Lower Hunter fashion displays a lemon butter softness and crisp acidity to ensure longevity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/SiMrR-rDHaI\/AAAAAAAAGgg\/SckYaNvOzpM\/s1600-h\/Rolling+Pink-723694.jpg\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342161170872868258\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/SiMrR-rDHaI\/AAAAAAAAGgg\/SckYaNvOzpM\/s320\/Rolling+Pink-723694.jpg\" \/><\/a>It&#8217;s only available from cellar door or mail order (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.margan.com.au\/\">www.margan.com.au<\/a> or 02 6579 1317) and select restaurants; at $30 its worth the phone call to buy by the case \u2013 put half away for super-enjoyment in five or six years, and savour the rest now with pan-fried white fish fillets or a creamy chicken pasta.<\/p>\n<p>ONE FOR LUNCH: WE&#8217;VE long held a passion for Indian food and a good Ros\u00e9, and one of the best Ros\u00e9s we&#8217;ve shared of late at our local Indian eatery is Rolling Wines&#8217; 2009 Rolling Pink. <\/p>\n<p>Winemaker Debbie Lauritz used 100 per cent Shiraz from the company&#8217;s cool, high-altitude vineyards at Orange in NSW for this wine that has lifted berry fruit charters and Shiraz spiciness, without too much tannin.
