More than 100,000 LEDs were ablaze in a kaleidoscope of colour on the Sydney Harbour Bridge tonight as the NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment, Andrew Stoner,previewed the iconic structure\u2019s highly anticipated interactive light <\/span>installation, a new spectacular addition to this year\u2019s Vivid Sydney, ahead of the festival\u2019s opening night on Friday 24 May.<\/span><\/p>\n

A world-first immersive projection following a collaboration between Vivid partner, Intel Australia, and Sydney-based lightwork innovators 32 Hundred Lighting, extends the Vivid Light Walk across the harbour into the North Sydney precinct for the first time.<\/div>\n

The Deputy Premier illuminated the western face of the iconic structure in a colourful rainbow of bold pinks, reds, blues and greens from an interactive touchscreen located on the Luna Park boardwalk. He was joined by Kate Burleigh, Managing Director Intel Australia & New Zealand; North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson; and Iain Reed from 32 Hundred Lighting.<\/div>\n

\u201cVivid Sydney has created a historic moment for Sydney – showing the magnificent Sydney Harbour Bridge in a way never seen before and for visitors to interact with one of our most iconic structures, every night of the 18-day festival,\u201d Mr Stoner said.<\/div>\n

\u201cThe extension of the Vivid Light Walk in collaboration with Intel is an exciting and ambitious expansion of Vivid Sydney, and one that will allow more people than ever before to experience this wonderful Winter event, with a multitude of viewing points on both sides of the harbour including Luna Park in North Sydney, Lavender Bay, Balmain, Walsh Bay and Observatory Hill.\u201d<\/div>\n

From 6.00pm to midnight every night, between 24 May and 10 June, spectators will be able to choose the scene and colour of the projection beamed along the upper and lower arches and the road deck of the western face of Sydney Harbour Bridge.The installation features 100,800 individual programmable LEDs and a state-of-the-art custom-designed software program.<\/div>\n

Destination NSW CEO, Sandra Chipchase, said more than 550,000 people were expected to attend Vivid Sydney this year, and with the addition of Destination NSW\u2019s special free Vivid Sydney Harbour Shuttle ferry operating between Kirribilli, Walsh Bay and Darling Harbour from 6pm-midnight every night, the event was more accessible than ever before.<\/div>\n
