{"id":20193,"date":"2014-03-03T10:01:00","date_gmt":"2014-03-03T10:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/sydney-joins-the-global-greening-for-st-patricks-day\/"},"modified":"2014-03-03T10:01:00","modified_gmt":"2014-03-03T10:01:00","slug":"sydney-joins-the-global-greening-for-st-patricks-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2014\/03\/sydney-joins-the-global-greening-for-st-patricks-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Sydney Joins The Global Greening For St Patrick\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"unnamed (7)\" class=\" wp-image-459101 alignleft\" data-mce-src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/unnamed-716-150x150.jpg\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/unnamed-716-150x150.jpg\" style=\"background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; cursor: default; float: left; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif; font-size: 14.399999618530273px; line-height: 21px;\" width=\"150\" \/><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 21px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">On March 17, 2014, Sydney and Canberra will join the global greening in celebration of St Patrick\u2019s Day.&nbsp; Tourism Ireland has arranged for key buildings throughout Sydney and Canberra to be lit a green hue in celebration of Ireland\u2019s national holiday and an unofficial day of celebration in Australia.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 21px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">The annual phenomenon which sees a host of major landmarks and iconic sites around the world \u2018go green\u2019 has grown from strength to strength, with a number of new landmarks signing up to take part this year.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">It is not the first time the western sails of the Sydney Opera House have turned green \u2013 this year the green hue will be visible from around 8pm, while it is a first for Old Parliament House in Canberra.&nbsp; Sydney buildings including Hyde Park Barracks, the State Library of NSW and Pitt Street Mall will also co-ordinate their colours in a united effort.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Diane Butler, Manager Tourism Ireland, Sydney and New Zealand said \u201ceach year the world goes green to celebrate St Patrick\u2019s Day and this year is no different.&nbsp; Sydney\u2019s landmark buildings will join other iconic buildings around the globe to celebrate all that it is to&nbsp;<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"unnamed (8)\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-459102\" data-mce-src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/unnamed-816-150x150.jpg\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/unnamed-816-150x150.jpg\" style=\"border: 0px; cursor: default; float: right;\" width=\"150\" \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">be Irish\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Famous landmarks going green this year include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra in Jordan, the Pyramids of Giza, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the London Eye along with the \u2018Welcome\u2019 sign in Las Vegas.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">The spectacular \u2018greening\u2019 campaign captures the imagination of millions and creates a vivid visual backdrop to the annual St Patrick celebrations.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">St Patrick&#8217;s Day is held in honour of Ireland&#8217;s patron saint and celebrates the diversity of culture and heritage on the island of Ireland as well as the famous friendliness of its people.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">It is traditionally marked by parades, festivals, parties, get-togethers, &#8216;craic&#8217; and the &#8216;wearing of the green&#8217; in cities and towns in Ireland and all around the world by people of both Irish and non-Irish descent.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #333333; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1.3em;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">The biggest celebration takes place in Dublin.
