\"TheAward-winning Southern Discoveries is inviting locals to jump aboard Queenstown\u2019s newest tourism attraction when it holds its first ever locals\u2019 day on <\/span>Saturday March 29.<\/b><\/span>

The tourism company is opening the doors of its brand new state-of-the-art catamaran Spirit of Queenstown and Mt NIC High Country Station to enable locals to experience Queenstown\u2019s latest attraction.   <\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
Wakatipu residents can enjoy a Scenic Cruise on Spirit of Queenstown for only $20 and the Merino experience at the Mt NIC Woolshed can also be included for an additional $10.  Proceeds from the day will go to Wakatipu High School.<\/span><\/div>\n
Southern Discoveries general manager John Robson said the company \u201chas had a lot of people asking where the boat goes to when it <\/span>\"Spiritleaves Queenstown.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThis is our way of giving the local community an opportunity to explore Lake Wakatipu and visit an authentic working high country station,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to see and experience what\u2019s on their back doorstep while also helping out our local community with proceeds going to the Wakatipu High School.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
Located in a peaceful and normally-inaccessible area on the western shore of Lake Wakatipu, Mt NIC is New Zealand\u2019s oldest family-run High Country Station.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cUntil now Mt NIC has been inaccessible to most and many Queenstowners won\u2019t have had the chance to get over there. We\u2019ve worked closely with Merino NZ to create a merino and woolshed experience set in stunning surroundings.\u201d said Mr Robson.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cWe encourage people to come out with friends and family, enjoy the cruise over on Spirit then soak up the rural atmosphere at the working high country station. It\u2019s a great way to spend a few hours.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
Each cruise lasts 1hr 45mins and those customers choosing the woolshed experience spend two hours at Mt NIC station. Tours depart from St Omer Wharf, 110 Beach Street at 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.45pm and 3.45pm.<\/span><\/div>\n
There will also be spot prizes, a sausage sizzle and face painting for the kids.  <\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
Guests can also try their hand at stone skimming, horseshoe tossing, gumboot throwing and even compete at virtual shearing, which is exclusive to Mt NIC and Southern Discoveries.<\/span><\/div>\n
Wakatipu High School Principal Steve Hall thanked Southern Discoveries for choosing to support the school.<\/span><\/div>\n

Proof of Wakatipu residence is required and payment is by cash only for the boat and woolshed experience.<\/span><\/div>\n
