The MGallery Collection is made up of a group of highly individual and distinctive hotels; each one remarkable for its identity and with a special story to tell. Standing on the same site as News Corp\u2019s original offices, The Playford Adelaide was once the site of Rupert Murdoch\u2019s first board meeting held in 1979<\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n

When the hotel opened its doors in 1998<\/a>, the Sparr family paid tribute to Adelaide\u2019s progressive history by sharing its name with the state\u2019s former premier, Sir Thomas Playford. During his term as premier between 1938<\/a> and 1965<\/a>, Sir Playford oversaw major population and economic gains that contributed to the flourishing city Adelaide is to this day. The former premier\u2019s progressive approach is reflected within the walls of The Playford Adelaide which brings together the best of Adelaide\u2019s assets whether they be artworks from local artists or a menu bursting with local produce.<\/span><\/div>\n

Walking through the hotel\u2019s front doors, guests are greeted with an ornate Art Nouveau aesthetic that is brought together by a tapestry of local artisans with commissioned furniture, artworks, carpets, statues, sculptures, mosaics, metalwork and mirrors. Over years The Playford Adelaide has attracted many of the state\u2019s leading artists perhaps due to its grandiose design. One of those artists is the revered David Bromley whose artworks now grace the walls of each guest room.<\/span><\/div>\n
