color: #3c3c3c; line-height: 19px;\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"NAIDOC\">&nbsp;week<\/a><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\">, Tourism Australia acknowledged the efforts of the country&#8217;s Indigenous Tourism Champions in providing enriching cultural experiences for international visitors.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">The Indigenous Tourism Champions Program, which is a joint initiative of Tourism Australia and&nbsp;<a data-mce-href=\"http:\/\/www.iba.gov.au\/\" data-mce-style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iba.gov.au\/\" style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" target=\"_blank\">Indigenous Business Australia<\/a>&nbsp;in partnership with the<a data-mce-href=\"http:\/\/www.tourism.australia.com\/contact-us\/state-tourism-offices.aspx\" data-mce-style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tourism.australia.com\/contact-us\/state-tourism-offices.aspx\" style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" target=\"_blank\">State and Territory Tourism Organisations<\/a>, looks to to build the reputation of Indigenous tourism operators internationally through the marketing of &#8216;Champion&#8217; product.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Currently, 14 per cent of international visitors to Australia participate in an Aboriginal cultural experience during their visit, worth $5.6 billion annually.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Tourism Australia Managing Director, John O&#8217;Sullivan, said the Indigenous Tourism Champions Program, now in its fourth year, had seen the number of &#8216;Champions&#8217; in the program more than double to 51 this year.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"347687_num906740\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-491721\" data-mce-src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/347687_num906740-300x200.jpg\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/347687_num906740-300x200.jpg\" style=\"float: right;\" width=\"300\" \/><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u201cThe quality and range of Indigenous tourism product available to international visitors is growing and this is very much to the credit of our &#8216;Champions&#8217; who continue to generously share their culture through authentic and compelling tourism experiences.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u201cIndigenous experiences are particularly sought after by some of Australia&#8217;s more mature tourism markets like the UK, Germany and USA and in the US alone last year 35 Indigenous tourism products were&nbsp;added to new or existing programs for seven key travel distributors, which is a fantastic result.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u201cAs part of our commitment to promoting what is unique and special about our country, Tourism Australia continues to step up its promotion of Indigenous experiences in our campaigns, programs and activities around the world,\u201d Mr O&#8217;Sullivan said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Through its international network, Tourism Australia promotes the highly appealing Indigenous tourism experiences that are part of the&nbsp;<a data-mce-href=\"http:\/\/www.tourism.australia.com\/aboriginal\/indigenous-tourism-champion-program.aspx\" data-mce-style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tourism.australia.com\/aboriginal\/indigenous-tourism-champion-program.aspx\" style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" target=\"_blank\">Indigenous Tourism Champions Program<\/a>&nbsp;to the international travel trade and consumers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">The Indigenous Tourism Champions Program is a key pillar of Tourism Australia&#8217;s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Earlier this year Tourism Australia launched its&nbsp;<a data-mce-href=\"http:\/\/www.tourism.australia.com\/news\/media-releases\/Media-releases-10426.aspx\" data-mce-style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tourism.australia.com\/news\/media-releases\/Media-releases-10426.aspx\" style=\"color: #3c3c3c;\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"RAP\">2014-16 RAP<\/a>, with &#8216;stretch&#8217; level targets to increase Indigenous employment within the organisation together with a number of other longer-term strategies to advance opportunities for Indigenous people.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div data-mce-style=\"color: #444444;\" style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Tourism Australia urged tourism operators to also consider developing their own Reconciliation Action Plans to assist their businesses in realising opportunities for reconciliation through practical plans to develop relationships, show respect and increase opportunities for Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Australia celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures duringNAIDOC&nbsp;week, Tourism Australia acknowledged the efforts of the country&#8217;s Indigenous Tourism Champions in providing enriching cultural experiences for international visitors.
