Today a new harbourside walking track opened at the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust\u2019s Headland Park site in Mosman.<\/span><\/span>

\u201cHeadland Park is one of Sydney\u2019s most beautiful urban parklands,\u201d said Senator Simon Birmingham, Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cI commend the Harbour Trust for preserving the site\u2019s natural beauty and heritage buildings. They have transformed Headland Park into a thriving urban parkland fostering commercial and community interests, education and recreation.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cThe total cost of the walkway is $204,405 with the NSW SSHAP initiative, aimed at improving public access and enjoyment of Sydney Harbour, contributing $75,000. This is a great example of how revenue derived from commercial activity on the Harbour Trust\u2019s sites has been used to open up and maximise public access.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cOne of the Harbour Trust\u2019s finest achievements is the magnificent harbourside walk from Chowder Bay to Balmoral Beach. This new walking track is the final link in the chain of walkways around Headland Park.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cIt provides a pedestrian pathway from Rawson Park to the Georges Heights Lookout, one of the harbour\u2019s most stunning vantage points, and The Tea Rooms Gunners Barracks, housed in the historic 1873 Gunners Barracks and one of Sydney\u2019s finest restaurants and function centres.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

The new walkway is now part of a two-kilometre walking track that starts on the ridge at Georges Heights Oval and goes through to Balmoral Oval via the Georges Head and Lower Georges Heights Lookouts. The Harbour Trust has installed benches for people to sit and enjoy the views along the route.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cOur Government wanted to ensure the beauty of these priceless harbourside locations were preserved so they could be enjoyed by as many people as possible.<\/span><\/div>\n
