{"id":19654,"date":"2014-08-27T14:41:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T14:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/oneonly-cape-town-to-support-south-african-wildlife\/"},"modified":"2014-08-27T14:41:00","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T14:41:00","slug":"oneonly-cape-town-to-support-south-african-wildlife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2014\/08\/oneonly-cape-town-to-support-south-african-wildlife\/","title":{"rendered":"One&#038;Only Cape Town to support South African wildlife"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breakingtravelnews.com\/images\/sized\/images\/uploads\/tourism\/south-africa-lion-250x150.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breakingtravelnews.com\/images\/sized\/images\/uploads\/tourism\/south-africa-lion-250x150.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>As part of a bid to avert a looming tragedy in lion populations all over the world, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oneandonlycapetown.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">One&amp;Only Cape Town<\/a> \u2013 in conjunction with the Forever Wild Lion programme of the Wilderness Foundation \u2013 has revealed plans to host a charity auction dinner.<\/p>\n<p>The event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 18th, follows a similar event in 2013 at the luxury resort in the Victoria &amp; Alfred Waterfront.<\/p>\n<p>That event netted the Foundation\u2019s rhino protection campaign nearly R300 000.<\/p>\n<p>According to the organisers of the event, lions guard our temples, adorn our flags, decorate our coins and capture our hearts.<\/p>\n<p>On almost every continent, and in thousands of cultures, the lion can be found demonstrating man\u2019s fascination with this magnificent beast.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Endangered Wildlife Trust and other conservation sources believe that almost 70 per cent of lions in South Africa are bred to be hunted.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the illegal trade in lion products has escalated to the extent that lions \u2013 like rhinoceroses \u2013 are becoming worth more money dead than alive.<\/p>\n<p>The auction will take place in the resort\u2019s ballroom with South Africa\u2019s Reuben Riffel presenting a three-course menu.<\/p>\n<p>Wines will be sponsored by Kleine Zalze of Stellenbosch and auctioneer Ariella Kuper will encourage guests to bid for items including a work by renowned British royal portrait painter Richard Stone, and a bespoke Nobu cocktail party for 20 people at the successful contributor\u2019s home and a luxury weekend escape to the new Oldenburg Homestead in the Banghoek Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets to the event are limited and are priced at R750 per person.<\/p>\n<p>All proceeds will be donated to the Wilderness Foundation\u2019s Forever Wild Lion Programme.<\/p>\n<p>To book for the One&amp;Only Cape Town\u2019s black tie event, email restaurant.reservations@oneandonlycapetown.com or phone 021 431 4511\/5888.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of a bid to avert a looming tragedy in lion populations all over the world, the One&amp;Only Cape Town \u2013 in conjunction with the Forever Wild Lion programme of the Wilderness Foundation \u2013 has revealed plans to host a charity auction dinner.
