{"id":1962,"date":"2010-01-15T03:35:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-15T03:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/?p=1962"},"modified":"2010-01-15T03:35:00","modified_gmt":"2010-01-15T03:35:00","slug":"air-new-zealand-rex-named-airlines-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2010\/01\/air-new-zealand-rex-named-airlines-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Air New Zealand, Rex named Airlines of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/airliners1.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/10\/air-new-zealand.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"270\" src=\"http:\/\/airliners1.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/10\/air-new-zealand.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>Air Transport World has named Air New Zealand as its Airline of the Year for 2010.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The aviation magazine said the airline was being honored \u201cfor its superb commitment to safety and operational excellence, typified by the use of Performance Based Navigation cockpit technology at weather and terrain challenged destinations, and for its superb and groundbreaking customer service that combines high-tech, passenger-friendly IT systems with high-touch and caring staff\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The editors further cited, \u201cAir New Zealand&#8217;s sterling financial performance and fiscal management during one of the most turbulent periods in aviation history\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>They also were strongly impressed with the airline&#8217;s leadership role in addressing environmental challenges facing the industry, including conducting the world&#8217;s first sustainable biofuel flight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs most of our international visitors travel to New Zealand by air, it is a huge advantage for a country like New Zealand to be served by an airline that is recognised as offering a top quality service,\u201d said Tourism New Zealand acting chief executive, Tim Hunter<\/p>\n<p>In another coup for Australia, Regional Express was named Regional Airline of the Year.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rex.com.au\/Jobs\/img\/FlightAttendant1.JPG\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"265\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rex.com.au\/Jobs\/img\/FlightAttendant1.JPG\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\u201cRex, as it is known locally, is recognised for its superior safety record and operational excellence, demonstrated by outstanding punctuality and flight completion,\u201d said ATW.<\/p>\n<p>The editors also applauded the &#8220;Rex Virtuous Cycle&#8221; model in which Rex competes against itself by adding capacity as load factors rise, causing fares to fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result, enplanements have doubled over the past five years, while airfares have dropped 30 percent, excluding fuel levies; and it earns consistently high marks in consumer polls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rex&#8217;s strategy rewards shareholders, too: It has been profitable for the last six years,&#8221; said ATW.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Air Transport World has named Air New Zealand as its Airline of the Year for 2010.
