<\/a><\/p>\nThe South Australian Tourism Commission has developed five self-drive routes highlighting wine regions, scenic coastal and Murray River drives, outback discovery routes, and the state’s freshest seafood and produce.<\/p>\n
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said self-drive tourists were a major proportion of all visitors to the State, and the new routes would make exploring South Australia by car much easier.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were 3.9 million domestic overnight leisure trips made in South Australia last year and 84 percent used a private, rented, hire vehicle or a campervan or motor home as a means of transport. That’s almost 3.3 million leisure purpose driving trips made in our State.<\/p>\n
\u201cSelf-drive holidays are one of the fastest growing tourism sectors and promoting these routes puts us in a great position to attract interstate and overseas visitors to SA.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese touring routes make South Australia more accessible, and make planning a road trip easier as they highlight some of our must-do experiences in an easy to follow format.\u201d<\/p>\n
The five routes are:
# Epicurean Way \u2013 McLaren Vale to Clare Valley via the Adelaide Hills and Barossa
# Explorers Way \u2013 Adelaide to Darwin via the Flinders Ranges
# Seafood Frontier \u2013 Adelaide to Eyre Peninsula via Yorke Peninsula
# Mighty Murray Way \u2013 the Murray River from Renmark to the Mouth
# Southern Ocean Drive \u2013 Mt Gambier to Adelaide via Kangaroo Island<\/p>\n
Minister Bignell said the routes are a guide to creating the ultimate road trip.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe encourage visitors to create their own adventure based on the new routes, with the knowledge that no two road trip experiences will be the same,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The routes will be promoted in downloadable maps and suggested itineraries on the southaustralia.com website. The website will also feature an interactive map that will provide more detailed information about experiences along the routes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese routes attempt to capture the diversity of experiences on offer in South Australia and are a great way to inspire visitors to head out on a road trip,\u201d Minister Bignell said.<\/p>\n
The South Australian Tourism Commission’s stand at the Royal Adelaide Show will feature touch screens displaying the routes on an interactive microsite as well as a flyer highlighting the five touring routes<\/p>\n
