They pioneered research into  understanding the risks and\u00a0developed effective procedures and  guidelines for all visitors, not just tourists.<\/p>\n<p>IAATO Executive Director, Dr Kim Crosbie, says, \u201cAlthough there is no  conclusive\u00a0evidence that visitors have introduced alien species or  external diseases, IAATO\u00a0has long been concerned about the potential for  visitors to be vectors. As part of\u00a0our mission to conduct  environmentally responsible travel, for several years\u00a0we\u2019ve worked with  the science community to understand the risks better and\u00a0develop  procedures and guidance for anyone visiting Antarctica.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guidance for visitors includes:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-HMsA2C5RzWo\/UEjszAE7nKI\/AAAAAAAAYJg\/6xqQdkZNli4\/s1600\/image003-792580.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-HMsA2C5RzWo\/UEjszAE7nKI\/AAAAAAAAYJg\/6xqQdkZNli4\/s1600\/image003-792580.jpg\"><\/a>\u2022 Before you go: The guidance is simple \u2013 take it new or take it  clean.\u00a0\u2018Don\u2019t Pack a Pest\u2019 \u00a0pre-departure\u00a0information explains how and  why all equipment, boots and clothing\u00a0should be cleaned, vacuumed and  disinfected before you head south.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In Antarctica: Equipment, boots and clothing should be  cleaned,\u00a0disinfected and dried between each visitor site and between  regions.\u00a0IAATO operators, have biosecurity procedures in place for their  clients,\u00a0for example, if travelling by ship or yacht, wash stations are  set up for use\u00a0by everyone before and after landings. These stations  use an IAATO\u00a0approved biocide.
