{"id":18832,"date":"2014-11-08T12:29:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-08T12:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/cruise-tourism-in-malaysia\/"},"modified":"2014-11-08T12:29:00","modified_gmt":"2014-11-08T12:29:00","slug":"cruise-tourism-in-malaysia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2014\/11\/cruise-tourism-in-malaysia\/","title":{"rendered":"Cruise Tourism in Malaysia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<br \/>#Malaysia Committed to Developing Cruise Tourism<\/p>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/suriagroup.com.my\/wp-content\/gallery\/ourbusiness\/jesselton-quay-4th-artist-impression.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/suriagroup.com.my\/wp-content\/gallery\/ourbusiness\/jesselton-quay-4th-artist-impression.jpg\"><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Proposed cruise terminal and waterfront development at Kota Kinabalu (Suria Capital)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Addressing the Global Tourism Economic Forum (GTEF) in Macau earlier this week, the Chairman of Tourism Malaysia Tan Sri Dato\u2019 Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, confirmed that the Malaysia government is committed to the ongoing development of cruise tourism.<\/p>\n<p>According to Man Sri Ng, \u201cMalaysia is developing and upgrading our hubs for cruise tourism, and the Government is fully supportive of making Malaysia the main cruise tourism playground of the East.\u201d  She also reiterated the ASEAN member states\u2019 commitment to improving tourism infrastructure in the region as part of the ASEAN Economic Community integration, saying that cruise tourism presented a significant opportunity to attract more tourists to ASEAN.  <\/p>\n<p>Cruise tourism is one of several key focus areas in Malaysia\u2019s tourism development plans, and efforts to grow this segment have resulted in the establishment of the Malaysia Cruise Council (MCC), an advisory committee comprising representatives from both public and private sectors, including the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Ministry of Transport and local port authorities.  \u2028\u2028<\/p>\n<p>Plans are also underway for the development of a Straits Riviera in Malaysia, comprising six primary ports including Penang, Port Klang, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suriagroup.com.my\/1620\/suria-capital-and-sbc-to-develop-jesselton-quay-project-24-oct-2013\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kota Kinabalu<\/a>, Langkawi, Melaka and Kuching.  In 2013, these received 359 cruise calls in total, and Malaysia is now regularly attracting larger ships, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalcaribbean.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Royal Caribbean<\/a>\u2019s 3,800-passenger <i>Mariner of the Seas<\/i>.  \u2028 <\/p>\n<p>Over 40 tourism officials from a range of countries participated in the GTEF, themed Maritime Silk Road \u2013 From Macau We Begin.
