The cruises range between 11 and 20 days in duration and depart from the world\u2019s southernmost city, Ushuaia, in Argentina.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<span>A highlight of this Antarctic season is a special 20-day, \u2018Shackleton Centenary Voyage\u2019 from Ushuaia on November 21, 2014, which will mark the 100<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the start of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton\u2019s legendary but ill-fated expedition to cross Antarctica on foot.Shackleton\u2019s ship was crushed by pack ice in remote waters before the trekkers could be landed, sparking a remarkable 20-<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Antarctica - Active Travel - Zodiacs\" data-mce-src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Antarctica-Active-Travel-Zodiacs1-300x224.jpg\" height=\"224\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Antarctica-Active-Travel-Zodiacs1-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\"><span>month bid for survival in tiny boats and on deserted islands that ended with Shackleton earning hero status for ensuring all of the 28 crew returned to civilisation alive. The voyage visits the Falklands, the Antarctic mainland and islands brimming with penguins and seals that featured in Shackleton\u2019s survival tale, including Elephant Island and South Georgia, where Shackleton was buried at the request of his wife in\u00a01922\u00a0after he suffered a heart attack in Brazil on a return expedition to Antarctica.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><span>The Shackleton Centenary Voyage is available from US$14,395 per person, twin-share, ex Ushuaia.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Three earlybird saving departures of December 8, 10 and 18 are also available for Active Travel\u2019s 11-day Antarctic Peninsula Adventure which takes passengers from Ushuaia across the Drake Passage to the icy continent for five days of exploration and wildlife viewing using the ship\u2019s Zodiacs.\u00a0The unique experience of camping overnight on the ice is included in the fare.\u00a0These cruises are available from US $9195 per person, twin-share. The December 18 departure promises a white Christmas on ice, and is priced from US$10,095.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>A 13-day \u2018Active Antarctica &#8211; Off the Beaten Track\u2019 cruise is also available from Ushuaia, departing on November 8, 2014, which offers seven days of Zodiac excursions ashore as well as optional active pursuits like ski touring, snow shoeing and overnight sea kayaking (some optional excursions are at additional expense). This voyage is priced from US$9595 per person twin-share, ex Ushuaia.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>All Antarctic cruises\u00a0include meals during the voyage, Zodiac excursions, ice camping and polar clothing and footwear hire. Flights to South America are not included and can be booked through Active Travel, with a AU$750 per person air credit available for bookings made before\u00a0<b>April 30, 2014<\/b>, on seven selected departures this November and December.
