Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia and World Expeditions have collaborated to offer Australian running and philanthropic enthusiasts a never-before experienced Ethiopian adventure.<\/span><\/span>

This unique travel opportunity will see 20 participants take part in the challenging 10km Great Ethiopian Run (also known as the 10km International) as part of an intimate tour of Ethiopia and a rare opportunity to visit Dr Catherine Hamlin\u2019s local hospital facilities.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n\"DrCatherineHamlinAC\"The Great Ethiopian Adventure will depart Sydney on 9 November, returning on 25 November, 2014, and will help Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia raise vital funds to support the work of Dr Catherine Hamlin and her team in Ethiopia to cure, treat and prevent obstetric fistula in Ethiopian women.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
With only 20 places available, each participant is required to raise a minimum of $10,000 for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (Australia) in order to take part and each team member covers their own travel expenses of $6,550 + $200 registration fee.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cAfter years of our supporters asking to visit Dr Hamlin and her facilities in Ethiopia, we have finally able to offer this tour format with World Expeditions as our partners,\u201d said Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (Australia) CEO, Lucy Perry.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThe team is incredibly excited and if all goes well, we hope to raise close to $250,000 which will completely cover all medical expenses for one of our regional facilities for a year,\u201d Perry said<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThe best attribute of this trip is that it showcases the cultural riches of Ethiopia and the positive change we can make in women\u2019s lives in this incredible part of the world,\u201d Perry said.<\/span><\/div>\n
In addition to participating in the 10km Great Ethiopian Run, the trip will visit the ancient Ethiopian Mursi, Hamer and Karo tribes, experience unprecedented access to the famous Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and one of its regional centres, and see the Hamlin College of Midwives and Desta Mender, the training and reintegration centre for long term patients, in full swing.<\/span><\/div>\n

Day 2 \u2013 Arrive in Addis Ababa
Day 3 \u2013 Visit the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and meet with staff
Day 4 \u2013 Fly to Arba Minch
Day 5 \u2013 Lake Chamo boat trip and visit Dorze village
Day 6 \u2013 Drive to Jinka en-route Konso
Day 7 \u2013 Drive to Turmi, onroute visit Mursi village and Dimeka market
Day 8 \u2013 Visit Karo and Hammer village
Day 9 \u2013 Visit Omorate village and drive to Konso
Day 10 \u2013 Drive from Konso to Yirgalem
Day 11 \u2013 Visit Yirgelam Hamlin Fistula Centre
Day 12 \u2013 Drive to Addis Ababa via Shahemane (Rasta village)
Day 13 \u2013 Visit the Hamlin College of Midwives
Day 14 \u2013 Visit Entoto Mountain and Desta Mender, Hamlin training centre
Day 15 \u2013 Compete in the Great Ethiopian Run!

\u201cRaising $10,000 will pay for 16 fistula operations to treat and\/or cure a patient, or it could go towards the training of a student at the Hamlin College of Midwives. Either way it will make an enormous difference to the lives of these women, their families and communities,\u201d Perry said.<\/span><\/div>\n
