{"id":17236,"date":"2013-10-29T12:17:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-29T12:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/auckland-one-of-lonely-planets-top-10-cities\/"},"modified":"2013-10-29T12:17:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-29T12:17:00","slug":"auckland-one-of-lonely-planets-top-10-cities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2013\/10\/auckland-one-of-lonely-planets-top-10-cities\/","title":{"rendered":"Auckland one of Lonely Planet&#8217;s Top 10 Cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span><span>Auckland has been rated as one of the world\u2019s Top 10 Cities to visit next year in Lonely Planet\u2019s Best in Travel 2014, published today.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span><span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Auckland sits alongside cities such as Paris, Zurich, Shanghai and Vancouver in the ninth annual guide which highlights the best trends, destinations, journeys and experiences for the upcoming year.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Auckland city at night\" data-mce-src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/McLennan_ATEED_0048.jpg\" height=\"213\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/McLennan_ATEED_0048.jpg\" width=\"320\"><span>In addition to Auckland\u2019s \u201cTop 10 Cities 2014\u201d ranking, West Coast New Zealand has also been selected as one of the \u201cTop 10 Regions to Visit in 2014\u201d.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Auckland is recognised for its cuisine, culture and coastal scenery with Lonely Planet saying: \u201cFood, arts and exploring the coastal hinterland are all excellent reasons to extend your stay in New Zealand\u2019s biggest and most cosmopolitan city.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Tourism New Zealand General Manager Tim Burgess says the accolade from the world\u2019s number one independent guidebook is well-deserved.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>\u201cAuckland is not only the largest Polynesian city in the world but a combination of magnificent natural scenery and a vibrant city lifestyle,\u201d Mr Burgess said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Auckland is praised in \u2018Best in Travel\u2019 for its newly revitalised waterfront districts like Wynyard Quarter, and shopping and dining precincts like Britomart.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>The region\u2019s west coast beaches, canyoning and abseiling in the Waitakere Ranges and the Hauraki Gulf and islands, including Waiheke Island\u2019s vineyards are also singled out.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Auckland\u2019s many festivals and events, its vibrant M\u0101ori and Pacific culture and impressive line up of major sporting events also received special mention.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>ATEED (Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development) Chief Executive, Brett O\u2019Riley says this accolade adds weight to Auckland\u2019s marketing efforts to attract domestic and international visitors to the region.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>\u201cThird party endorsements like this provide an outstanding independent platform for us to showcase all that is so special about Auckland to a global audience,\u201d Mr O\u2019Riley said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>The Top 10 Cities were independently nominated by more than 500 Lonely Planet authors and staff and selected based on topicality, excitement and that special x-factor.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Auckland has been rated as one of the world\u2019s Top 10 Cities to visit next year in Lonely Planet\u2019s Best in Travel 2014, published today.
