{"id":16840,"date":"2014-01-03T09:33:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-03T09:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/sail-port-stephens-double-bunger\/"},"modified":"2014-01-03T09:33:00","modified_gmt":"2014-01-03T09:33:00","slug":"sail-port-stephens-double-bunger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2014\/01\/sail-port-stephens-double-bunger\/","title":{"rendered":"Sail Port Stephens double bunger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span><span>Sail Port Stephens is one of the fastest growing sailing regattas on the Australia eastern seaboard and for the 2014 edition, April\u00a011 \u2013 16, there is weighty pot of IRC gold waiting at the finish.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span><span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span>Skippers can choose the more relaxed option by entering Sail Port Stephens in cruising mode, or limber up at the NSW IRC Championship at Port Stephens then go for the double bunger and enter the prestigious 2014 Audi IRC Australian Championship immediately following.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Commodore of the Sail Port Stephens organising club, Corlette Point Sailing Association, Dom Grundy said \u201cWe have rejigged our format and will run the IRC racing from\u00a0Friday\u00a0to\u00a0Sunday\u00a0to fit in with the Easter break and the Audi IRC nationals at Newcastle.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<span><br \/><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Sail Port Stephens\" data-mce-src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sail-Port-Stephens1.jpg\" height=\"194\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sail-Port-Stephens1.jpg\" width=\"291\">\n<\/div>\n<div><span>Details are at\u00a0<a data-mce-href=\"http:\/\/www.sailporstephens.com.au\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sailporstephens.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.sailporstephens.com.au<\/a>\u00a0and entries are now open.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Given the limited berthing across three local marinas, Grundy encourages skippers to secure their entry and marina space early, in view of the expected influx of IRC contenders. \u201cSail Port Stephens has grown every year since its inception in 2008 and next April we expect the biggest IRC fleet yet, given we\u2019ll be hosting the perfect lead-in event.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>\u201cUnlike past years the series will commence with the more serious IRC and Performance Racing component vying for the Port Stephens Trophy, and wind up with the more relaxed Commodore\u2019s Cup for the cruising contingent.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Corlette Point Sailing Association and the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club have cooperated to deliver two high profile events within close proximity to each other and Sydney, and both family friendly given they comfortably fall within the NSW school term break.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>The three-day NSW IRC Championship, starting Friday 11<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April and the Sail Port Stephens icebreaker, is the best opportunity for the grand prix crews to find their groove prior to the national title over the Easter long weekend, April\u00a017 &#8211; 20.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Next on the six-day schedule is the Commodore\u2019s Cup for the cruising divisions, three days of less hectic inshore and offshore racing mostly in the expansive bay, which is two-times the size of Sydney Harbour, and using the Port Stephen\u2019s Marine Park\u2019s magnificent offshore islands as turning marks.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Feeder races will go ahead with Sydney to Newcastle on\u00a0April 4\u00a0and Newcastle to Port Stephens on\u00a0April 5.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Principal Race Officer Denis Thompson will return to oversee another well-run regatta with hopefully smoother conditions after this year\u2019s fleet encountered an East Coast Low that dampened proceedings but not spirits.
