{"id":16361,"date":"2007-07-29T23:51:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-29T23:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/being-adventurous-bears-fruit-2\/"},"modified":"2007-07-29T23:51:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-29T23:51:00","slug":"being-adventurous-bears-fruit-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2007\/07\/being-adventurous-bears-fruit-2\/","title":{"rendered":"BEING ADVENTUROUS BEARS FRUIT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.co.uk\/rodeime\/VINTNEWS\/photo?authkey=z2TXO9lQWUA#5092773144279633298\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.google.co.uk\/rodeime\/Rq0qMSpvzZI\/AAAAAAAAArw\/lTOGH8MxI00\/s288\/rob_fiumara_vines.jpg\" align=\"left\"><\/a>ROBERT Fiumara, Chief Winemaker at Lillypilly Estate in the Riverina, is an adventurous soul, his latest effort an usual dessert wine he thinks will appeal to those who like their sweets and puddings, but not of the overly-rich variety.<\/p>\n<p>Robert\u2019s stepped away before from the Semillons and Rieslings that are the usual backbones for botrytised dessert wines to experiment with Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, and Muscat of Alexandria, but with his 2006 Noble Blend he\u2019s done the somewhat unthinkable \u2013 he\u2019s included Chardonnay in the blend.<\/p>\n<p>Many fellow winemakers were possibly horrified at the idea, but Robert says he was quite excited to find botrytis developing in a small block of Chardonnay in his Leeton vineyard in 2006 \u2013 and admits that when he tried to hold-back some of the normally early-ripening fruit from the same block this year for a 2007 Noble Blend, he lost the lot when the berries broke down too quickly.<\/p>\n<p>His 2006 Noble Blend is an interesting compilation of 35 per cent Semillon, 30 per cent Riesling, 25 per cent Sauvignon Blanc, and 10 per cent Chardonnay. \u201cI think the Chardonnay has definitely added complexity and stonefruit characters to the bouquet, and an extra dimension to the palate,\u201d he says. \u201cBut, no, it won\u2019t be making regular appearances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All the same, this is a very delightful \u2013 if slightly different \u2013 dessert wine with lovely zestiness and freshness on the palate, and certainly well worth $24.50 for a 375ml bottle to round-off a good dinner with a fresh lime brul\u00e9e.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROBERT Fiumara, Chief Winemaker at Lillypilly Estate in the Riverina, is an adventurous soul, his latest effort an usual dessert wine he thinks will appeal to those who like their sweets and puddings, but not of the overly-rich variety.
