{"id":16269,"date":"2008-12-07T23:07:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-07T23:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/angus-grab-it-by-the-horns-2\/"},"modified":"2008-12-07T23:07:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-07T23:07:00","slug":"angus-grab-it-by-the-horns-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2008\/12\/angus-grab-it-by-the-horns-2\/","title":{"rendered":"ANGUS \u2013 GRAB IT BY THE HORNS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/STxXNb1bXMI\/AAAAAAAAEgY\/kDEB0esbcWw\/s1600-h\/Goundrey+G+Tempranillo+Cab-753610.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/STxXNb1bXMI\/AAAAAAAAEgY\/kDEB0esbcWw\/s320\/Goundrey+G+Tempranillo+Cab-753610.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/STxXNivuchI\/AAAAAAAAEgg\/dAk3DMr0Z8U\/s1600-h\/Angus_deep-etch_CMYK07-754141.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/STxXNivuchI\/AAAAAAAAEgg\/dAk3DMr0Z8U\/s320\/Angus_deep-etch_CMYK07-754141.JPG\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Wc08Dec08<\/span><\/p>\n<p>wine with david ellis<\/p>\n<p>IT took just five vintages for Angus the Bull to make its mark as the wine of choice of many a red-blooded Aussie carnivore.<\/p>\n<p>And the release of the sixth vintage is sure to get more doing so, even though 2007 was a horror year for many makers with drought cutting fruit supplies to people like Hamish MacGowan \u2013 winemaker and founder of Angus the Bull \u2013 by over twenty per cent.<\/p>\n<p>To make up for it Hamish had to go &#8220;looking further afield,&#8221; and ended up drawing on supplies from Victoria&#8217;s and South Australia&#8217;s premium Cabernet Sauvignon wine regions as diverse as the Strathbogie Ranges, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Goulburn Valley and Swan Hill.<\/p>\n<p>The result is the 2007 Angus is a gutsy red with intense dark fruit, chocolate and vanillin flavours and gorgeous savoury oak \u2013 a wine to take by the horns.<\/p>\n<p>Pay a great-value $19.95 for the 750ml &#8216;the Bull,&#8217; or just $12.95 for the 375ml aptly-named half-bottle &#8216;Angus Calf,&#8217; and team it with a standing rib roast, Yorkshire Pudd and baked spuds.<\/p>\n<p>ONE FOR LUNCH: Western Australia&#8217;s Goundrey has released a new Cabernet Tempranillo under its Goundrey-G label, a flavoursome addition to its Shiraz Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc Semillon that have been quick to amass an array of trophies and medals since their release just last year. <\/p>\n<p>Winemaker Peter Dillon drew on fruit from the Great Southern region for this 2007 Cabernet Tempranillo that&#8217;s got nice dark cherry and blackberry fruit flavours, a long and complex finish of savoury and cigar-box characters, smooth tannins, and beautifully integrated nougat and charry oak.<\/p>\n<p>At $21.50 share it friends over a rich home-made steak and kidney pie.<\/p>\n<p>(Need a drink?
