{"id":16181,"date":"2010-05-30T23:32:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-30T23:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/winning-shiraz-from-outside-the-square-2\/"},"modified":"2010-05-30T23:32:00","modified_gmt":"2010-05-30T23:32:00","slug":"winning-shiraz-from-outside-the-square-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2010\/05\/winning-shiraz-from-outside-the-square-2\/","title":{"rendered":"WINNING SHIRAZ FROM OUTSIDE THE SQUARE"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span>Wc31May10<\/span><\/p>\n<p>david ellis<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/TAL1kpR2fMI\/AAAAAAAAKW8\/bAlEi0Q0qFQ\/s1600\/E%26T_Redbrook_MR_Sh_07+Rsz-754745.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/TAL1kpR2fMI\/AAAAAAAAKW8\/bAlEi0Q0qFQ\/s320\/E%26T_Redbrook_MR_Sh_07+Rsz-754745.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>MANY of us tend to categorise Australia&#8217;s regions and wine varieties without too much thought to the possibilities of those regions throwing up a few surprises with varietals out of the norm.<\/p>\n<p>And a surprise out of the norm is exactly what Evans &#038; Tate have achieved with their Redbrook Shiraz 2007: this one&#8217;s from Western Australia&#8217;s Margaret River \u2013 a region\u00a0 long renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay \u2013 and when their winemaker, Matthew Byrne decided to look outside the square, he came up with a winner with this Shiraz.<\/p>\n<p>First made in 2004, this label took just a year to stamp its mark on our wine scene, with the 2005 taking out no fewer than six trophies at the 2008 Sydney Royal Wine Show.<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/TAL1lNjZclI\/AAAAAAAAKXE\/mMQ4RbPkAYI\/s1600\/Rolling+Sauv+Blanc+Sem-756787.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_OY-0d2rKv_Q\/TAL1lNjZclI\/AAAAAAAAKXE\/mMQ4RbPkAYI\/s320\/Rolling+Sauv+Blanc+Sem-756787.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>And the just-released 2007 has already garnered four Gold Medals, which is little wonder: this is a wine of wonderfully-balanced\u00a0 Shiraz fruit intensity with aromas of mulberry, plum fruits and black pepper that surge out of the glass, and follow through beautifully on the palate.<\/p>\n<p>At $39.95 this is one to offer guests with a juicy sirloin steak and oven-baked smashed garlic potatoes.<\/p>\n<p>ONE FOR LUNCH: Cumulus Estate&#8217;s Rolling label is making an enviable name for itself with wines from NSW&#8217;s Central Ranges, and created by a team led by Senior Winemaker, Debbie Lauritz.<\/p>\n<p>Their 2009 Rolling Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is one such drop for those who like this popular blending: the two varietals were picked and cool-temperature fermented separately, and after fermentation blended 70-30 to get the best of fruit flavour, freshness and mouth feel.
