Elisa Detrez, an online marketer from France who beat more than 10,000 applicants for the \u2018Best Job in the World\u2019 Park Ranger position, started work in Queensland today.<\/span><\/span>

Tourism Australia\u2019s \u2018Best Jobs in the World\u2019 campaign targeted global youth travellers and involved State and Territory organisations including Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ).<\/span><\/div>\n

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey and National Parks Minister Steve Dickson welcomed Elisa back to Queensland and presented her with a six-month itinerary for the dream job.<\/span><\/div>\n

As Queensland\u2019s \u2018Best Job\u2019 Park Ranger, Elisa\u2019s office for the next six-months will be a selection of spectacular natural settings throughout the State.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cFrom today, Elisa will work alongside experienced guides and tourism operators to explore Queensland\u2019s natural attractions including the world\u2019s oldest rainforest, largest coral reef and ancient fossil sites, reporting back to a global audience,\u201d Ms Stuckey said.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cElisa\u2019s itinerary will see her spend the next few months jungle surfing throughout the north of the State before heading west for an Outback \u2018Eventure\u2019 and then south to explore the Southern Great Barrier Reef.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cQueensland boasts five World Heritage-listed areas as well as hundreds of national and marine parks, with amazing nature-based tourism experiences.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

Elisa said she was excited to officially begin her six-month stint as Queensland\u2019s \u2018Best Job\u2019 Park Ranger.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cQueensland is renowned in France for its natural beauty, which made the job as Park Ranger so appealing,\u201d Elisa said.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to visiting Fraser Island and going horse riding on Magnetic Island. Along the way I look forward to learning from the custodians of the land and want to encourage more people to visit this amazing destination.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

Ms Stuckey said Queensland\u2019s natural environment was the tourism industry\u2019s greatest competitive advantage and a main motivator of travel for international youth.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cTourism and Events Queensland has worked in partnership with the State\u2019s regional tourism organisations, Adventure Queensland, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and industry to develop an itinerary which incorporates an array of nature-based tourism experiences throughout the State,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/div>\n

Mr Dickson said he was looking forward to having Elisa on board to showcase Queensland\u2019s spectacular national parks to a global audience.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cThe Newman Government is fulfilling our promise to unlock our national parks for all Queenslanders and visitors to enjoy, and Elisa will do a great job in spreading that message,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n

The \u2018Best Jobs in the World\u2019 campaign is one of many initiatives supported by the Government through TEQ and QPWS to grow eco-tourism opportunities and help reach the goal of $30 billion in annual overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.<\/span><\/div>\n
