\"AInternational freestyle sports celebrities will be \u2018bringing it all\u2019 to the 11<\/span>th<\/sup>\u00a0annual Parklife Invitational being held in downtown Queenstown this weekend (<\/span>Saturday August 17<\/b>).<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Legendary freestylers and brothers Beau James and Jackson Wells will battle for top spot in the ski category while international pro boarders Kiwis Nick Hyne and Nick Brown go head to head in the annual winter rail jam event.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nLocal Queenstown freestyle skier Adie Lawrence will be returning to participate alongside fellow\u00a0<\/span>\"RiderKiwi\u00a0Anna\u00a0Willcox-Silfverberg and last year\u2019s winner Dutch skier Isabelle Hanssen.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n

Confirmed female boarders include 2012 Parklife Invitational snowboard winner Orla Doolin from Ireland, Jen Brown from the UK and local lass Christy Prior.<\/span><\/div>\n

Meanwhile returning freestyle motorcross champions Brenton Drager and Ryan Brown \u2013 some of the hottest FMX bikers in Australasia \u2013 are confirmed for a thrills-packed FMX demo guaranteed to get the crowd roaring.<\/span><\/div>\n

Held in the Queenstown Rec grounds, the highly-anticipated event is featuring a \u2018who\u2019s who\u2019 of skiers and boarders performing to the outer limits of their ability on a 32-stair handrail feature using snow trucked in from The Remarkables ski area.<\/span><\/div>\n

The Remarkables ski area manager Ross Lawrence said it promised to be an \u201cawesome\u201d comp with categories for male and female skiers and boarders and up to $5000 in cash and other prizes up for grabs.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThese are big names on the international circuit who\u2019ll be mixing it up right here on our doorstep,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cThis is the most renowned rail comp in New Zealand and a \u2018once a year\u2019 opportunity for people to see all the action across three extreme sports disciplines in one night in a central location.<\/span><\/div>\n

\n\"2012\u201cIt makes for great family entertainment which is why we\u2019ll start early in the evening with Spike and Shred, who will make a rare trip down from the mountain to join in the fun.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/div>\n

The Rail Jam starts with a qualifying round where each competitor laps the feature aiming to impress the judges enough to advance to the finals. Best males and females in both categories will \u2018take it up another gear\u2019 in their final runs in a bid to take home cash prizes and branded gear.<\/span><\/div>\n

If the weather doesn\u2019t come to the party there\u2019s a \u2018rain date\u2019 for the following night.<\/span><\/div>\n

Mr Lawrence said FMX riders Drager and Brown were amped to be back in Queenstown to entertain the crowds before and in-between snow freestyle heats.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re so looking forward to showing off their talent for what\u2019s shaping up to be a huge audience,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n

FMX manager Richard Stevenson, who organises Nitro Circus events, said it was one of the few occasions that people could watch the high-energy showmanship of FMX in their own backyard, especially in mid-winter.<\/span><\/div>\n

“This is typically a summer sport because it\u2019s so weather dependent, but this weekend we\u2019re pulling out all the stops for these guys to wow the crowds,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll be executing some crazy tricks, flipping their 100kg dirt bikes 75 feet in the air, across snow and rails. It\u2019s going to be pretty insane.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

Mr Stevenson said FMX was hugely popular in Europe and Australia with increasingly high levels of \u2018daring\u2019.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cHere in New Zealand it\u2019s a relatively new sport that\u2019s been experienced by relatively few people, and probably not at the level that these guys are bringing.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

Twenty-four-year-old Australian Brenton Drager won the renowned Precise Pro Open in 2012 and is one of Australia\u2019s top riders making headlines internationally. His top trick is the Superflip Indy.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Fellow Australian 21-year old Ryan Brown is renowned for his switchblade flip, last year impressing audiences by completing a 110ft Flip at the Australian FMX Championships\u00a0and pulling the Best Whip at the\u00a0Australian & Underground FMX Championships.<\/span><\/div>\n

A third FMX rider will be confirmed this week.<\/span><\/div>\n

The two-rail structure and FMX ramps will be assembled from\u00a0Wednesday\u00a0onwards by The Remarkables ski area Terrain Park crew and snow will be brought in first thing\u00a0on Saturday\u00a0to be prepped for the BIG event that evening.<\/span><\/div>\n

Gates open\u00a04.30pm\u00a0and tickets are on sale from the Queenstown Snow Centre all this week. The event runs from\u00a05.30pm to 9.30pm\u00a0and tickets are $5.<\/span><\/div>\n
