After a 27 year hiatus a modern edition of the famous Opera House Lottery will be brought back to celebrate the iconic building\u2019s 40<\/span>th<\/sup>Anniversary, Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner and the Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts George Souris announced today.<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Stoner said that over four weeks in November (2013) the NSW\u00a0Saturday\u00a0Lotto draws will promote the Sydney Opera House thanks to a partnership between NSW Lotteries, the NSW Government and Sydney Opera House.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThe Sydney Opera House has become Australia\u2019s most internationally recognised landmark and a vital part of our identity and visitor economy,\u201d Mr Stoner said.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cThe Opera House has a historic connection with lotteries, with the Opera House Lottery raising more than $105 million from 1957 to 1986 to help finance the iconic building\u2019s construction.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cTo celebrate its 40th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary the Sydney Opera House is rekindling this connection with the lottery.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cDuring the month of November the\u00a0Saturday\u00a0Lotto draw, along with other marketing initiatives, will promote the Sydney Opera House\u2019s Anniversary milestone.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cUnlike the Opera House Lotteries of the past, this initiative will not see a direct connection between ticket sales and Opera House funding.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cFunding from the partnership will instead support the Anniversary celebrations and a new Opera House Welcome Centre to help enrich the experience of the 8.2 million people who visit the Opera House each year,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n

In total, the partnership represents a multi-million dollar investment with the NSW Government contributing $1.5 million.<\/span><\/div>\n

The NSW Lotteries investment includes:<\/span><\/div>\n

  • A significant sponsorship fee for Sydney Opera House;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Extensive media and marketing support to promote Sydney Opera House through the\u00a0Saturday\u00a0NSW Lotto partnership;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Special-edition Opera House branded Instant Scratch-It tickets; and<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Development support for an Opera House grassroots fundraising campaign.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Minister for Tourism George Souris said the NSW Government has provided more than $150 million towards Sydney Opera House\u2019s recent major infrastructure works, the largest construction project undertaken since the Opera House opened in 1973.<\/span><\/div>\n

    \u201cThe Opera House is an internationally recognised symbol of our State and one of the NSW Government\u2019s most significant cultural assets. It anchors Sydney as the gateway for international tourism in Australia,\u201d Mr Souris said.<\/span><\/div>\n

    \u201cThat\u2019s why the NSW Government has recently committed $13.7 million to the Sydney Opera House in 2014-15 to develop a Masterplan for the building\u2019s future.<\/span><\/div>\n

    CEO of the Tatts Group, the operator of NSW Lotteries, Robbie Cooke welcomed the partnership, saying: \u201cThe Opera House is a symbol of national pride and we are delighted to support this icon.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

    Opera House CEO, Louise Herron, said: \u201cThe November\u00a0Saturday\u00a0Lotto partnership is a highly symbolic show of support for the renewal of the Sydney Opera House.<\/span><\/div>\n

    \u201cOur 40th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary is about reaching into our history as we launch into a decade of renewal to secure the Opera House for future generations,\u201d Ms Herron said.<\/span><\/div>\n
