A highlight of\u00a0<\/span>Cunard Line<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>2014 Voyage Programme<\/strong>\u00a0will be the overnight stay of the intimately luxurious\u00a0<\/span>Queen Victoria<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in Liverpool, England, in May \u2013 the first two-day call in Cunard’s spiritual home made by a Cunard ship in almost 50 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking place during her 13-day\u00a0Around the British Isles\u00a0cruise, departing roundtrip Southampton on\u00a023 May 2014,\u00a0Queen Victoria<\/strong>\u00a0will arrive in Liverpool on\u00a030 May.\u00a0\u00a0That day she will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Maiden Voyage of\u00a0Aquitania<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a Cunard legend that became known as the \u201cShip Beautiful.\u201d<\/div>\n

The largest liner in the world at the time of her 30 May\u00a01914<\/a>\u00a0Maiden Voyage,\u00a0Aquitania<\/strong>\u00a0is considered one of the most beautiful liners ever built, and certainly the most beautiful four-funneled liner ever. \u00a0She became one of the longest-serving Cunarders in history \u2013 36 years \u2013 and was the only major liner to serve in both World Wars. \u00a0In fact, Sir Winston Churchill credited her and her two\u00a0\"vcsPRAsset_515440_107503_5f612873-75f2-48b0-afe9-1a1fd305bb0e_0\"contemporaries, the original\u00a0Queen Mary<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Queen Elizabeth,<\/strong>with shortening World War II by a year.\u00a0 The service length and miles sailed (three million) of\u00a0Aquitania<\/strong>\u00a0were both only surpassed by Cunard\u2019s iconicQueen Elizabeth 2<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

\u201cEach visit of a Cunard ship to the River Mersey is reason to celebrate, and the city and crowds of Liverpool never let us down,\u201d said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line.\u00a0 \u201cThe maiden voyage of Aquitania is still something to be proud of and something to celebrate 100 years later, and we intend to do that in true Cunard style on the actual day of the anniversary.”<\/div>\n

On\u00a030 May 2014,\u00a0Queen Victoria<\/strong>\u00a0will remain in port for a rare overnight stay in Liverpool, the city that was Cunard\u2019s original home port for much of the Line\u2019s early history, before continuing on her\u00a0Around the British Isles\u00a0cruise.\u00a0 She will also call at South Queensferry, Invergordon, Kirkwall (maiden call), Greenock, Dublin, Cobh and St. Peter Port before arriving back in Southampton on\u00a05 June 2014.<\/div>\n

Greenock on the Clyde also has a close connection with\u00a0Aquitania,<\/strong>\u00a0as the ship was built at the famous John Brown Shipyard located there. \u00a0Additionally, when\u00a0Queen Victoria<\/strong>\u00a0arrives in Cobh, an earlier Cunard ship,\u00a0Lusitania<\/strong>, will be remembered for her loss in World War I, as is becoming the custom when Cunard ships call there.<\/div>\n
