Herberton Historic Village will be home to the Emirates Melbourne Cup for\u00a0one day when the prized 18-carat gold trophy visits on July 25 as part of a three-month journey around\u00a0Australia and New Zealand in the lead up to this year\u2019s big race.<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Herberton is one of only 34 towns to host the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour this year, with the\u00a0$175,000 cup to be displayed throughout the day at the Historic Village so locals and visitors can have\u00a0their photo taken alongside the world\u2019s most travelled sporting trophy.<\/span><\/div>\n

Owners Craig and Connie Kimberley said to celebrate the occasion the Village would host a free\u00a0Community Cup Charity Day for people living on the Atherton Tablelands (identification required), with\u00a0a gold coin donation on entry appreciated.<\/span><\/div>\n

All money raised will be given to the Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway Inc, which is run by a group\u00a0of volunteers establishing a working historic train line in Herberton.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cThere is noting people love more in Herberton than a good old fashioned celebration, add the\u00a0Melbourne Cup and you have something truly special and life changing. The Melbourne Cup is one of\u00a0Australia\u2019s favourite sporting and cultural events and to have the Cup Tour visit Herberton Historic\u00a0Village is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cWe all love the Melbourne Cup \u2013 the horses, the fashion and the excitement \u2013 and I\u2019m sure locals,\u00a0children and visitors on the Atherton Tablelands will make the most of the chance to have their photo\u00a0taken with one of Australia\u2019s true sporting icons.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

Craig said the Village would open in a field day format for the one-day event,with live music and\u00a0experts demonstrating blacksmithing, printing and more.<\/span><\/div>\n

However, he believed the real highlight would the be the start up of the Village\u2019s iconic vehicles and\u00a0machinery.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cThere will be working displays all day including the 1923 Harley Davidson, the extremely rare 1925\u00a0Indian motorcycle, and the 1935 John Deere Tractor.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

On top of this, the 1930s diesel powered Ruston Hornsby will also run along with the turn of the\u00a0century stampers from the new tin mine, which is currently under construction, and the large steam\u00a0engine from 1900.<\/span><\/div>\n

There will be cake stalls and sausage sizzles, run by local charities including the anglican Guild and\u00a0the Lions Club, as well as free train rides and the Pioneer Camp serving fresh stew, damper and billy\u00a0tea.<\/span><\/div>\n
