{"id":11178,"date":"2013-05-19T04:51:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-19T04:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/wonderland-of-winter-events-in-nsw\/"},"modified":"2013-05-19T04:51:00","modified_gmt":"2013-05-19T04:51:00","slug":"wonderland-of-winter-events-in-nsw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/traveloscopy.com\/travel-news\/2013\/05\/wonderland-of-winter-events-in-nsw\/","title":{"rendered":"Wonderland of winter events in NSW"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sydney.com\/__data\/assets\/image\/0007\/92617\/Opera-House-sails-230-by-292.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sydney.com\/__data\/assets\/image\/0007\/92617\/Opera-House-sails-230-by-292.jpg\"><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Vivid Sydney<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Winter in NSW is set to be a season of wall-to-wall events, attracting visitors and locals alike to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sydney.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sydney<\/a> and the regions, according to Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris.<\/p>\n<p>From blockbuster sporting events to music, food and cultural festivals, NSW during Winter will be a hive of activity and loads of fun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough Destination NSW, its tourism and events agency, the Government has embarked upon a marketing campaign, called Love Every Second in Sydney, which is in its third phase and continues to gain momentum,\u201d Mr Souris said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWinter blockbuster events such as two State of Origin rugby league games, the British and Irish Lions Tour, Manchester United vs. the A League All Stars, The Bledisloe Cup and the Australian Surf Festival\u2026 to Vivid Sydney, the Sydney Moderns art exhibition, The Sydney Film Festival and the 2013 Helpmann Awards, Sydney is delivering some of the nation\u2019s best winter warmers for the Harbour City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDestination NSW, has begun a campaign to attract overseas and interstate visitors to NSW for our magnificent winter festivals and events, which will be a major boost to the State\u2019s economy,\u201d Mr Souris said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message is that there is no need to hibernate during winter in Sydney because there are plenty of things to see and do, including our fine dining, great shopping and stunning regional destinations. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the campaign\u2019s launch last year, it has contributed more than three million visits to sydney.com website and 658,000 sales leads to the tourism industry.  With an unprecedented number of spectacular events such as Vivid Sydney, the major sporting codes and the beauty of our city and regions in winter, we expect that success to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Souris said Regional NSW would also witness some fantastic events during the winter months and are being promoted through visitnsw.com and newspaper inserts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is also a million dollar campaign promoting the attractions of the NSW South Coast and another regional promotion called \u201cIt\u2019s ON in Regional NSW\u201d will soon begin, promoting the state\u2019s regions throughout Australia and New Zealand. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the major regional events include, the British and Irish Lions v NSW Country in Newcastle; the Australian Surf Festival at Port Macquarie; Splendour in the Grass at Byron Bay; the Snowy Mountains Music Festival; the Aberdeen Highland Games; the Sawtell Chilli Festival and Lismore\u2019s Opera at the Channon\u2026to name just a few.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Destination NSW CEO Sandra Chipchase said: \u201cAny winter weekend away in Sydney this year has to include one of the fabulous \u2018Sydney-only\u2019 events such as Vivid, the British and Irish Lions Tour and the State of Origin double-header and many others \u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSydney comes alive day and night in winter with a packed line-up of world-class events, big-city shopping, family-fun and some of Australia\u2019s best dining experiences.
