Grand Pacific Tours Winter Wonderland Ball raising money for Alzheimer’s Australia was successfully staged on Saturday night, 26th of July.

One hundred and thirty-seven people attended the event held at the Sebel Hotel Albert Park which incorporated a programme of entertainment and fund raising. Over 70 companies throughout Australia and New Zealand supported the event with generous sponsorship and donations.

Several companies providing major sponsorship were Loans Actually, Techno Phobia, Association Retailers Limited and Air New Zealand. Grand Pacific Tours provided the major raffle prize of a 11 Day North and South Island Tour.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a year’s fundraising efforts showcased on a giant size cheque totalling $17,255.00 to Lynette Moore, CEO, Alzheimer’s Australia Vic.

Peter Harding, Managing Director of Grand Pacific Tours comments, “The Management and staff are absolutely delighted with this effort. It was Grand Pacific Tours intention, through the instigation of the company charity to provide both financial sponsorship and create awareness of Alzheimer’s that can affect both family members and friends. As New Zealand’s leading coach tour operator our core demographic is the senior traveller and providing assistance to this charity is our way of supporting such a crippling disease as dementia”.

Alzheimer’s Australia is the national peak body for people living with dementia, their families and carers and provides leadership in policy and services. The dementia epidemic is here. In 2007 there were an estimated 220,050 people with dementia; by 2030 this figure will have more than doubled to 465,460 and by 2050 will reach 731,030. Dementia is the chronic disease that is projected to show the greatest increase in disease burden by 2023.
