New Textile Tour in Peru
Australian soft adventure agency, Active Travel, is offering a new textile-themed tour in Peru in 2015, guided by an Australian expert in tapestry weaving.
The new 13-day ‘Textiles of the Andes’ tour from Lima to Cusco starts on June 24, 2015, and will be led by Valerie Kirk, senior lecturer and head of textiles at the National Institute of the Arts at the Australian National University in Canberra. Ms Kirk has led textile focused tours for over 20 years.
The itinerary explores traditional Peruvian textile production and includes the opportunity for travellers to engage with local weavers during special, hands-on textile workshops.
Also included are visits to Machu Picchu and a scenic train trip through the Andes to Lake Titicaca to meet the reed island dwellers. Including 12 nights’ hotel accommodation, 17 meals and touring, the package is available from A$5169 per person, twin-share, with a A$798 solo supplement. Flights from Australia and a flight from Cusco back to Lima are additional.
Flights can be booked through Active Travel, with LAN Airlines currently offering return flights from Australia to Lima from $1499 if booked before November 19, 2014. Conditions apply and fares are subject to availability.
