Sir Michael’s Magical Creatures Frolic in Snowy Queenstown
Within weeks of Sir Michael Hill introducing the latest residents to his sculpture collection at world champion golf course The Hills in Queenstown, New Zealand, the snow descended giving these pretty ponies a new coat for the winter season.
Titled “The Frolic and the Fancy”, these 5 stunning creatures were created by sculptor Max Patte the head of sculpture at Wellington’s Weta Workshop and who has in recent times worked on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. The sculptures stand a mighty 2.7metres tall and weigh 1.5tonnes set in cast iron. A medium that will evolve and change in the weather overtime to give them as Patte says, “their own unique story”.
Another highlight of the weather in New Zealand is that the ski season is just around the corner. Coronet Peak has been blanketed with snow and is set to open on 8 June. Other ski fields aren’t far behind with Mt. Dobson in McKenzie and Mt. Hutt in Canterbury due to open on 12 and 15 June respectively. All fields are ready to create a magical winter holiday for Australian travellers.
