The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pressing ahead with its plans to position the kingdom as one

TAT this week welcomes 14 top honeymoon agents from the US, Canada and Latin America and a representative from The Knot, a leading honeymoon magazine in the US, attending the “Thailand for Two – A Romance Symposium” fam trip in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket during 21 March – 1 April, 2014.
Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas) of TAT said, “We started to tap into the honeymoon segment in these three markets a few years back by building relationships with specialised honeymoon agents. To date, our list of honeymoon agents in the US alone has grown from just a few to 1,600. This fam trip is just a part of our many activities to showcase Thailand as one of the world’s top honeymoon destinations to these lucrative long-haul markets.”
Apart from gaining first-hand experience on a wide variety of Thailand’s luxury travel offers that make the kingdom so alluring for couples, the delegates are also sharing their knowledge about the honeymoon segment in their respective markets with hotels and honeymoon tour operators in the three major Thai cities.
During the first symposium, held in Bangkok on 24 March, 2014, the delegates praised Thailand for the “high touch” service and its wealth of unique hotels and resorts. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket are singled out as the most popular honeymoon destinations for couples from the US, Canada and Latin America.
The growth in the number of private luxury pool villas, as well as unique hotels, available in many parts of Thailand is also pointed out as a major draw for couples seeking a romantic setting for their honeymoons.
The honeymoon agents will also be sharing their first-hand knowledge on dealing with honeymoon couples in the US, Canada and Latin America markets in Chiang Mai and Phuket. They will share their views at the second Thailand for Two – A Romance Symposium in Chiang Mai on 27 March, 2014, and in Phuket on 31 March, 2014.
In 2013, Thailand welcomed a total of 1,170,642 visitors from the Americas market, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.05 per cent. Of the total, the USA market contributed 826,350 visitors (up 7.51 per cent) and Canada contributed 230,082 visitors (up 4.89 per cent).
