An initiative of Queenstown.com, people are encouraged to post their picture with Billy on Twitter, Instagram or the official Gigatown Queenstown Facebook page with the hashtag ‘#GigatownQTN’.

Those who do will be in the draw to win special prizes and will be safe in the knowledge they’re helping keep Queenstown in the running to win super-fast internet access.

Prizes including apparel, frisbees, Gigabytes and advertising, and are drawn online randomly with winners notified via the Queenstown.com website and social media.

unnamed (14)With the help of local Remarkables Primary student James Scoles, who is the voice of Billy, the loveable bubble has come to life on YouTube.

The video is the first of many that will follow Billy in his Queenstown adventures and help boost Queenstown in the Gigatown rankings.

Billy has had a hard life beginning his career as a promotional car commuting to Skippers Canyon every day before spending 15 years off the road.

Thanks to “a lot of tender love and care” from Queenstown.com technical director Uan Spijkerbosch Billy has proven he’s “still got it” and is extremely popular with Queenstowners and tourists alike.

“Every time I take him out for a spin I have people wanting to take a picture, sit in the driver’s seat and know more about him,” he said.

“He’s a great little car – he can get up to 110kmph and even do a wheel-stand – but I can’t drive him up Lake Street or he’ll roll over backwards.”

Billy Bubble will be out and about leading up to the Gigatown competition deadline on September 12 2014 and Uan is encouraging people to keep an eye out for him.

“You never know where Billy will turn up next. We can tell you he’ll be out and about during DNA Gay Ski Week QT so keep your eyes peeled for him.

“You may be lucky enough to grab a picture or two and win a prize.”

“Basically it’s a fun way to get Billy out and about socialising again. He’s a friendly wee car and loves meeting new people so we’re open to people approaching us and asking him along to their next event.”

Queenstown is currently in seventh place in the Gigatown rankings and only the top five will go through to the final round. Much needed votes can be gained by following the #GigatownQTN campaign on social media channels and using the hashtag in social media posts and shares.
