“The economic opportunity for international business events is a significant one,” said Andrew Hiebl, Executive Director of AACB.  “CIBTM provides an opportunity for Australian convention bureaux to connect and build strong relationships with China and Asian business events clientele.  Today, 30% of international business events delegates are from Asia and the growth prospects are greater than any other market.”

China’s economy is fast growing and dynamic.  CIBTM provides a wealth of opportunities allowing Business Events Australia and Australian convention bureaux to showcase and highlight the many high quality products and experiences found in Australia as a business events destination.

“Tourism Australia is committed to the China market – in fact we’re increasing resources through recruitment into the local team, which will help to deliver our message more effectively and support enquiries for the Australian industry,” said Penny Lion, General Manager of Business Events Australia.  “Our relative proximity and excellent travel network makes Australia an attractive destination.”

Australia’s convention bureaux recognise their collective responsibility to promote Australia as a premier international business events destination.

“The Cairns & Great Barrier region continues to experience significant growth from the China market,” said Rosie Douglas, Director of Business and Tourism Events for Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef.  “The natural assets of the Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest, along with being Australia’s closet gateway city to China, make the region very appealing to the business events market.  Through our partnership with Tourism Australia we are able to leverage our marketing activities at CITBM very effectively.”

Partnership between convention bureaux, Tourism Australia and industry supports the high yielding international business events sector that is integral to helping achieve Australia’s Tourism 2020 targets.
