Gastronomic Tour of Thailand and Laos with Renowned Australian Chef Jeff Piper

Renowned Australian chef and Asian cuisine expert, Jeff Piper, will host a gastronomic tour of Thailand and Laos run by Active Travel in July, 2015.

The 15-day ‘Tastes of Thailand and Laos’ tour  features cooking classes, visits to food markets, traditional meals in some of the two countries’ best restaurants and a home-cooked meal prepared by a former chef for the Laos royal family keen to share her former employers’ traditional  dishes.

The tour will be guided by Jeff Piper, head chef and creator of the critically acclaimed Canberra Thai eatery and wine bar, ‘Thirst’. An expert on the culinary treasures of Thailand and Laos and a friend to some of the top chefs in the region, Jeff will lead Australian food lovers to some of the most colourful, aromatic and interesting restaurants and food stalls in the area, sharing local cuisine secrets and guiding guests’ palates on a mouth-watering journey through the region’s best flavours and textures.

“While it’s easy for any visitor to find food in Thailand and Laos, I look forward to the opportunity to share my passion for Thai food with guests on this tour,” said Jeff. “I will take them to excellent places and show them what is good to eat and what to try. I have been travelling to the region for more than 30 years so I can explain local customs and cooking methods while guests sample foods they wouldn’t have tried on their own.”

Active Travel’s tour starts in Vientiane in Laos on July 15, 2015, and also includes a two-day riverboat cruise on the jungle-clad Mekong near the Golden Triangle in Laos and includes visits to temples, waterfalls, caves, villages and arts centres.

Including accommodation and 30 meals, the tour from Vientiane to Bangkok is available from A$4588 per person, twin-share, with a single supplement of A$965. Flights are extra and can be booked through Active Travel.
