Accor partners Corroboree Sydney 2014
Accor is committed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and is proud to sign on for a second year as official accommodation partner for Corroboree Sydney 2014 festival, which officially opens today.
A celebration of Australia’s rich Indigenous heritage and contemporary Aboriginal culture, Corroboree Sydney will be held over 11 days from 20 – 30 November 2014. This is the second year of the festival and Accor hotels across Sydney will be involved as key accommodation and promotional partners during the event.
Simon McGrath, Chief Operating Officer of Accor Pacific said, “Accor is proud to be able to continue its support of this significant cultural festival, which is an important event on Sydney’s arts calendar.”
“Corroboree Sydney has been created to promote greater understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of Australia’s Indigenous culture. Accor’s own corporate vision is to celebrate and raise the profile of indigenous ambassadors and their culture, both at work and in a broader community context, so the festival is a natural alliance for us.”
This year’s festival has expanded, with over 200 events on showcase around Sydney’s iconic foreshore, from the main hub on the western foreshore of Circular Quay outside the MCA to the newly included Darling Harbour precinct.
The festival program will include visual arts, literature, music and performing arts, seminars, performances and exhibitions. In addition, this year coincides with the 25th anniversary of Bangarra Dance Company which will see an anniversary performance housed on the forecourt of the Opera House on Sunday 30 November.
For the past 14 years, Accor has been widely recognised for its involvement in Indigenous employment programs and community groups. With a commitment to actively seeking, training and hiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, Accor held 20 Indigenous Employment Training Programs around Australia in 2013 which saw the successful employment of over 130 Indigenous career seekers employed in a variety of positions within Accor. To date, there are 350 employees in Accor which identify as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
