Queenstown’s world-famous jet boat thrill Shotover Jet has once again been rated amongst the best in the world for tourism experiences.

Global media giant CNN has just published a ‘scrap all those other bucket lists’ collection of the top 19 most amazing travel experiences in the world.

Shotover Jet is the only New Zealand activity to make the global list, which includes a range of ‘bank-busting’ activities at around the US $5,000 to $6,000 per person, making Shotover Jet look extremely good value at US$108.

The 85km per hour ride, according to CNN, is right up there with swimming with blue whales, sledding in Antarctica and renting Richard Branson’s personal island, among other unique experiences.

CNN’s latest list is part of its Elite Escapes pages, covering luxurious and often pricey travel destinations and must-dos.

Shotover Jet General Manager Clark Scott said the company was proud to be among the top-rated in the world.

“Shotover Jet is one of New Zealand’s most iconic activities and it’s great to see it rubbing shoulders with experiences that are simply beyond the reach of most tourists,” said Mr Scott.

“It’s not just about being an exclusive thrill; being affordable for families and our visitors from all around the world is really important to us. I think we’ve found that balance between being a fantastic activity, but without the heavy price tag.

“We’re constantly developing and incorporating new and exciting products and ‘tweaks’ to what we do so well, to keep Shotover Jet one of the top-rated activities around.”

CNN said the fact that Shotover Jet whooshed to fame earlier this year when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge came along for the thrill ride of their lives certainly helped raise the company’s international profile.

The Royal couple were treated to the same trip that all passengers enjoy, where they speed down the Shotover River’s narrow canyons in a jet boat powered by V8 engines, executing exciting high speed spins in as little as three inches of water.

‘Big Red’ Shotover Jet boats have hosted millions of people since 1970 and are the only company permitted to shoot down the stunning Shotover River canyons.
