New Indian Wildlife tour
Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards, deer and hummingbirds are just some of the native Indian animals that could be spotted by travellers on Active Travel’s new India Wildlife Safari, departing from Delhi in March, 2015.
Hosted by one of India’s premier wildlife experts, Raghu Kulkarni, the safari includes visits to the rugged Satpura National Park and also the lush Kanha National Park, which was the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s classic ‘The Jungle Book’. Both parks feature wild animals such as tigers, elephants and leopards.
The 12-day itinerary begins with two days exploring Delhi’s historic buildings, colourful bazaars and gardens, before guests fly to Kanha. Spanning over 1945 km², the Kanha National Park is known for preserving a number of endangered animal species, including the barasingha (swamp deer) which previously faced extinction. There, over the next three days, the group will take part in morning and evening jeep safaris, walk to local villages and relax in the comfortable safari lodge.
Guests then journey to Satpura, where they will go on jeep safaris to see wildlife in the scenic surrounds of forests, mountains and gorges and explore nearby lakes for water birds. The tour culminates with a visit to Van Vihar National Park, known as providing the ‘green lungs’ for the city of Bhopal, before a short flight to Mumbai for travellers to connect to their homeward flight or explore the country further.
The package includes, 12 nights’ accommodation at four-star hotels and jungle safari lodges, wildlife safaris, entrance fees for parks and sightseeing, internal flights, full board at lodges, breakfasts in Delhi and transfers. Commencing in Delhi on March 12, 2015, and concluding in Mumbai on March 24, the tour is available from A$5667 per person, twin-share. The single supplement is A$1795. Also available is a five-day, pre-tour ‘Golden Triangle’ package, which includes visits to the cities of Agra and Jaipur, including the famous Taj Mahal, costing from A$1335. Conditions apply. Flights to and from India are not included but can be booked through Active Travel.
