Sunday of the Australia Day long weekend will be a day of pure relaxation and indulgence at ‘Crush 09’, the Adelaide Hills Wine Festival.
The January event will be a chance to escape the heat of the city to relax in the freshness of the Hills, and sip on a glass of exquisite wine on a lawn in dappled shade, says Executive Officer, Ms Denise Manson.
This year’s festival is a celebration of sensuality, with visitors invited to luxuriate in the extraordinary beauty of the Adelaide Hills, when the vineyards are in full leaf amongst the cherry and apple orchards, and it is the time of veraison, when the grapes on the vine begin to swell and blush with colour in the summer warmth. Amidst this beautiful backdrop, guests can leisurely meander from cellar door to cellar door throughout the hills, or attend one of six ‘cluster’ events, where several wineries come together.
In addition to the Harvest at Hahndorf cluster involving d’Arenberg, Howard Vineyard, K1 by Geoff Hardy, Longview and Wirra Wirra Vineyards, Hahndorf will also host Wine, Women and Whey, a collaboration between two sassy young women, Sarah Fletcher of Alta Wines and Sheree Sullivan at Udder Delights. The Hahndorf Hill Winery brings fine wine and funky fashion together with the sexy Amy Winehouse tribute, with the chance to dress up as the iconic singer (photos available).
Complimentary wine tutorials will reveal the secrets of crisp Sauvignon Blanc, elegant Chardonnay and cool climate Shiraz by passionate winemakers at three different venues throughout the hills during the day.
“The sophistication of Shaw and Smith, The Lane and Nepenthe are all an easy drive, or explore a little further to experience the thrill of black cockatoos at dust at Sinclairs Gully”, offers Denise.
“There is so much to discover.”
