Continental Micronesia this week celebrates the 10th anniversary of flights between Cairns and the territory of Guam, in Micronesia.
The airline, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the world’s fifth-largest carrier, Continental , operates two weekly flights from Cairns, departing every Monday and Friday morning.
The early morning departures enable passengers from throughout Australia to connect in Cairns for the four hour, 25 minute flight to Guam’s A.B. Won Pat International Airport.
From the Guam hub, Continental Micronesia offers 236 departures each week between 23 cities around the Pacific Rim, the Micronesian Islands and Hawaii, operating a fleet of 12 next-generation Boeing 737s and Boeing 767 aircraft.
In addition, Continental Micronesia and its code share partner Cape Air operate 86 weekly commuter service flights between Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Destinations served from Guam include the US mainland, via Hawaii, plus Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Indonesia, as well as nine islands – Saipan, Rota, Yap, Palau, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Kwajalein and Majuro.
These islands offer superb diving on reefs and war wrecks, including the remains of ships sunk in both World War 1 and World War 2.
The Cairns – Guam flights are operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft (PICTURE ATTACHED), configured to seat 155 passengers in a two class cabin – 14 in Business Class and 141 in Economy Class.
To help celebrate the Cairns-Guam flight milestone, 13 representatives from Micronesia’s national travel organisations, hoteliers and tour organisations have come to Queensland this week to promote travel to the North Pacific oceanic islands at industry and media briefings in Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane.
Continental Airlines, together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than 3,100 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 145 domestic and 138 international destinations. More than 550 additional points are served via other Skyteam Alliance airlines.
