Melbourne in Full Bloom

Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show

Gardeners and garden lovers will flock to the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show, 28 March – 1 April, to be inspired and to get ideas from Australia’s best landscape designers, horticulturists and florists.

Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show will be held at the world heritage Royal Exhibition Building and surrounding Carlton Gardens, on the fringe of Melbourne’s CBD.

There will be a strong emphasis on saving water and gardening in the drought at this year’s Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show opens on 28th March.

For five days (until 1 April), MIFGS will showcase the latest water saving products, gardening techniques and give showgoers practical advice on creating a waterwise garden. And as usual, the show will be colourful, entertaining and a great day out!

Highlights of this year’s show include:

Something Wicked This Way Comes
The Landscape Industry Association Victoria (LIAV) has invited eight designers to break the rules!  The emphasis is on art and nature rather than traditional landscape.  This quirky display will use Shakespeare for inspiration.  Each installation will cost no more than $5,000.

Deborah Hutton at the Kmart Garden House
Visitors can see Deborah Hutton and other experts for a series of talks at the Kmart Garden House, which takes on a zesty citrus theme this year and will showcase Kmart’s range of plants, products and homewares.

Savewater
The Savewater display will feature practical and sustainable ways to garden during drought conditions including a ‘rain garden’ which utilises rainwater from downpipes straight onto the garden.

After the Show, all the recycled water will be used as directed by the City of Melbourne to either water trees or fill ponds.
