World Nomads

Kick Start a Travel Writing Career with the World Nomads Ambassador Program – or just see a slab of Australia for free.

Travel all over the countryside, write about it, blog it and podcast it on the World Nomads website – vehicle and technical requirements provided free of charge – and you could be on your way to a career as a travel writer. Or at least a travel tragic.

World Nomads is looking for a minimum of 16 ‘Adventure Ambassadors’ to share in a huge, two-year Aussie road trip. Travellers Auto Barn will provide the Ambassador van (which bears little resemblance to its Indian namesake) and if you make the grade and get selected as an Ambassador, you can drive off into the countryside, exploring the great Aussie continent at will, for up to six weeks.

The selection process will be based on applicants’ skills, availability, eagerness – and a monumental appetite for adventure.  You’ll also need to be a bit tech savvy and keen to tell the world what you get up to.

For here’s the catch: in return for the trip of your dreams, you’ll be asked to share it along the way through posting regular blogs, podcasts and vidcasts on the World Nomads website.

World Nomads will provide a laptop and ipod and all the back-up needed to deliver, with gizmos, gadgets and guidance from a range of sponsors.  Travellers Auto Barn will provide the van; Nokia will provide the latest N93 phone with high resolution photo and video capabilities; Global Gossip will provide internet access for uploading travel stories to the World Nomads website and Lonely Planet will provide enough destination information to ensure you don’t get too lost.

Adecco is also on board providing access to great jobs should an Ambassador be in need of a job at the end of their jaunt, and Intrepid travel will be offering treks to some lucky bloggers.

Successful World Nomads ambassadors must be prepared to travel to the designated pick-up point to take over the Ambassador van from the previous Nomads and cover the running costs of the van (fuel, oil etc) and living expenses (food, alcohol etc). There are terms and conditions similar to a standard car rental agreement – including being over 21 years of age and having a valid driver's license and a credit card.

World Nomads is a leading on-line travel insurance provider, allowing you to buy your policy even after you’ve left home, extend your policy indefinitely and make claims online while you’re still away, from anywhere in the world. Their comprehensive travel insurance policies are competitively priced and policyholders can also take advantage of foreign language learning podcasts, the red24 security alert service, and a personal on-line travel journal. World Nomads also has a charity program, Footprints, which has raised over $120,000 in the last year for sustainable travel projects around the world.

World Nomads partners with some of the best insurers in the world to provide unique and financially secure travel insurance. These include Allianz Australia, Allianz New Zealand, BCI insurance Company and Arch Capital Group.
