Live entertainment, international cuisine and fireworks on the Harbour – it’s Sydney’s favourite way to celebrate Australia Day!

On Friday 26 January, Darling Harbour promises to be the most popular Sydney location to celebrate what Australia is all about.  From 11.30am there will be free, live performances by some of the country's most popular artists, kids’ entertainment, an international food fair and a vessels parade on the water.

The highlight of Sydney’s Australia Day celebrations is the Darling Harbour Spectacular – a stunning multimedia symphony of pyrotechnics, light and music, culminating in a massive fireworks spectacular over Cockle Bay.

The fun starts at 11.30am with the kids’ program at Palm Grove.  Come and play with all your favourite ABC characters including Fireman Sam, George Spartels, Captain Feathersword and Penny and Angela’s Holiday.  Go Seek, Star Girls and Kids4life will also be there.

From 12pm Tumbalong Park will feature live music performances by some of Australia’s top up-and-coming rock and pop artists including electronic music guru Paul Mac, Tyrone Noonan, Old Man River and Monique Brumby.  An International Food Fair will offer a diverse array of cuisine throughout the day until 9.30pm.

The Pre-Spectacular Celebrations commence at 6.30pm when Cockle Bay plays host to harbour parades and the official Australia Day ceremony.  Come and see a host of working and Government vessels as they sail into Cockle Bay followed by the splendid sails and towering masts of the majestic Tall Ships.

The Australia Day Spectacular at Darling Harbour is a wonderful celebration of the Australian identity.  More than 150,000 people will gather around the sparkling waters of Cockle Bay for this annual event, the finale to our day long festival of national pride.

Using a mix of pyrotechnics, light and music, the Spectacular will explore our indigenous heritage, immigrant legacy and our modern, cosmopolitan identity.

Presented from the waters of Cockle Bay, the program includes an Aboriginal Welcome to Country, live music performances, new citizen stories and Dein Perry’s Tap Dogs as they’ve never been seen before – all building to a breathtaking fireworks display.

The 2007 Spectacular has been created for all Australians to share. So get down to Darling Harbour early and pick a prime spot to enjoy all the festivities. The entertainment kicks off at 6.30pm with the breath-taking finale commencing at 8.45pm.
