HIGHROADS WEBSITE INSPIRES CONSUMER TO CREATE INDIVIDUAL ITINERARIES

www.highroads.com.au is a new initiative put together by Project SCAN - a cooperative regional development project funded by the Australian Government under the Australian Tourism Development Program (ATDP) and implemented by Tourism Snowy Mountains Capital Country Tourism, Australian Capital Tourism and Tourism New South Wales.

This website allows the consumer to create their own drive itineraries. Five experiential categories have been chosen after extensive research. The consumer will then choose activities, and sightseeing from one or all of these experiences to create their itinerary. The five experiences are a) history and culture; b) food and wine; c) gardens; d) adventure; and e) nature.

All the consumer has to do is click on the places of choice and then the website does the rest. Then print your itinerary and take it on the road with you highlighting your personal route map. It’s fast, informative and very easy to operate.

Another facility the website will offer is real time accommodation bookings of selected regional accommodation properties through the site’s on line bookings facility.

Jonathan Kobus, Project SCAN said, “ We are extremely pleased with this new concept which has been designed to achieve results so that employment and economic opportunities will be created in the local community. This will be done through raising of awareness of product and experiences in the SCAN region via emarketing and advertising which we believe will lengthen stays of visitors to the area as well as increase numbers of travellers.”

We believe that most of the travellers will be journeying Sydney, regional NSW and Canberra and will be inspired to spend an extra day to get off the beaten track and see what the hospitable countryside can offer.
