THE TABLE IS SET FOR TASTES OF GOLD COAST FESTIVAL

A month-long love affair with food is about to begin on the Gold Coast with the commencement of the Tastes of Gold Coast festival. The festival opens with the gala Awards of Excellence evening next Tuesday 31 July, hosted by Restaurant and Catering Queensland's Gold Coast Branch at Royal Pines Resort.Thousands are expected to flock to the Gold Coast this month to experience the best in food and wine that the region has to offer, not to mention the fine local chef talent that will be on display.

Proudly supported and presented by Gold Coast City Council and Gold Coast Tourism, Tastes of Gold Coast will see a range of different venues throughout August host themed banquets, dinners, markets, street parties, competitions and more.

According to Gold Coast Tourism CEO, Pavan Bhatia, the festival in only its second year has already attracted the attention of food and wine lovers on a national and international level and is set to inject a significant rise in visitors to the Gold Coast.

"Visitors choose the Gold Coast as a holiday destination time and time again for its wonderful contrast and diversity of experiences," Mr Bhatia said.

"Travellers from all over the world will revile in the selection of experiences our fruitful food and wine industry and local community has to offer. We are looking forward to seeing Tastes of Gold Coast grow year on year as we share this wonderful aspect of our everyday life," he said.

The first event on the menu is Seafood Paradise Weekend and it is sure to set a very tasty standard for this month-long feast.

Festivities will begin between Friday 4 August and Sunday 6 August at the Gold Coast's iconic beachfront tourist mecca, Surfers Paradise.

As the name suggests, internationally and locally renowned hotel chefs will create a seafood paradise with a local catch from the sea and locally matched wines to delight visitors.

In amongst the paradise of seafood, three top-notch Gold Coast chefs will take a pinch of local produce and a whole lot of Gold Coast humour to cook up the most entertaining live workshops imaginable in ?Three Chefs do lunch' at the Gold Coast Arts Centre, Bundall on Saturday 5 August.

Other key events throughout the festival include:
  • August 18-20 - Tastes of Broadbeach: local producer markets, a progressive dinner and plenty of live street entertainment, held in the Broadbeach precinct
  • August 19 - Gold Coast Signature Dish Competition: local chefs vie to create our own signature dish at the Marina Mirage Farmers Markets
  • August 26 - Mushrooms on Main: challenging the chefs of Tedder Avenue Main Beach to create a range of mushroom-inspired dishes
  • August 27- A la Carte on the Beach: a family fun day of food, wine and live entertainment in Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta

"The table is set and the weather is balmy as ever on the Gold Coast for a
month-long festival of feasts across the region. Locals and visitors alike are invited to re-discover our burgeoning food and wine industry, taste the local flavours and embark on their own cooking adventure.

"Every weekend throughout August is sure to be a VeryGC occasion so prepare to be dazzled and amazed," Mr Bhatia said.
