Sink Your Teeth Into Singapore's 13th Food Festival
Singapore invites you to indulge in a tour for the tastebuds during its
13th annual Singapore Food Festival (1- 31 July 2006), celebrating the
smorgasbord of local cuisine in the Lion City.
In a city where eating is a national pastime, and ‘Have you eaten yet?'
is heard more frequently than ‘How are you?", visitors are always
guaranteed a mouth watering experience, but none more so than during
this annual month-long celebration of fabulous food.Malay, Chinese and Indian are just some of the influences that blend
together to create local favourites such as Chilli Crab, Hainanese
Chicken Rice, Laksa and Fish Head Curry - all available from market
stalls set up around the city during the Singapore Food Festival (SFF).
Add to the mix unique events such heritage food trails, colourful food
carnivals, culinary workshops, and even a food play event designed
especially for children, and the recipe for one of the region's most
successful food events is complete.
"As culinary tourism has picked up momentum, the SFF has become the
perennial favourite for food enthusiasts from around the globe -
including Australia," says Mr Kevin Leong, Regional Director Oceania
for the Singapore Tourism Board.
"Travellers consistently rate dining as one of their favourite holiday
activities, and we know that their lasting memories are intertwined
with the quality of their food experience. By offering travellers
exposure to a diverse range of cuisines, food events and unique dining
opportunities, the SFF more than meets the needs of passionate food
aficionados", he added.

Opening Celebrations
1 - 2 July 2006
Sample Singapore's iconic dish on centre stage - Chilli Crab. You can
take part in games and activities and even learn the secrets on how
best to cook this local delight yourself.
Singapore Food Ball Festival
7-9 July 2006
Bugis Junction
In honour of the World Cup, all things round are celebrated. Sample
tasty treats including Hainanese Chicken Rice Balls, Glutinous Rice
Balls (Tang Yuan), Ice Balls or Fishballs.
Dining in Garden City
12-16 July 2006
Plaza Singapura
Local fare and flowers come together in this lush and luxuriant garden setting.
Wedding Feast on the Bay
28-30 July 2006

This may well be one of the grandest wedding feasts you will ever
encounter, as you discover the ethnic food culture and symbolic
meanings behind Singapore's matrimonial celebrations. With a

 Chilli Crab Chase
No visitor will want to miss out on this iconic delicacy that is so
close to Singaporean hearts. With fresh spices, rosy tomatoes and
spicy, piquant chilli flavours laced over a sweet and succulent

New Dish Creation
Taste the unique creations of master chefs who put their culinary
skills to the test to create Singapore's next signature dish, marking
this year's festival. Last year's winning creations included Chef
Somsak Chomprach's ‘Lord of the Seas', Master Chef Foong Kok Thin's
‘Rojak Prawn Ball in Pocket Beancurd', and Mr Kumar's Mili Juli
Chicken.
"Singapore is otherwise known as the Lion City and visitor are invited
to join us and feast like a Lion during the Singapore Food Festival
celebrations," said Mr Leong.
The Singapore Food Festival runs from 1 to 31 July 2006. Holders of the
Merchant Promotion Programme discount card can enjoy an array of offers
at participating food and beverage establishments throughout the
festival.
