Queensland Voted The Best Hotels In Australia

Sydney Hotels Dominate The 10 Best City Hotels In Australia

Melbourne - City of the Best Hotels


Queensland has turned other state tourism bodies green by claiming 41 of the 101 Best Hotels in Australia.

Domestic tourism magazine Australian Traveller has published the list of 101 Best Hotels in Australia based on more than 74,000 consumer votes.


And Queensland has dominated with 41 of the 101 Best Hotels in the sunshine state, taking out all ten of the best family resorts or hotels, eight of the best 10 resorts and five of the ten best hotels in Australia.

The best-rated Queensland hotel was the Palazzo Versace, ranked No. 2 overall behind Crown Towers in Melbourne.

Other accolades went to Marriott Surfers Paradise voted the Best Resort, and Paradise Resort Gold Coast voted the best Family Hotel or Resort.

"The rest of Australia looks to Queensland as the leader in tourism in Australia and now we have the data to confirm it." says editor Greg Barton.

"This is the largest consumer survey of its kind and as such reflects those places that are putting the consumer experience first. It is a great reference for anyone holidaying in Australia."

Consumer voting in December 2005 and January 2006 determined the 101 Best Hotels In Australia. The survey was conducted by Hotel Club in conjunction with Getaway, ninemsn, Budget Car Rentals and Australian Traveller.

Sydney Hotels Dominate The 10 Best City Hotels In Australia



Sydney CBD hotels with harbour views have won the hearts of consumers according to the largest consumer survey of hotel guests.

Domestic tourism magazine Australian Traveller has published the list of 101 Best Hotels in Australia based on more than 74,000 consumer votes.

And Sydney hotels have taken out six of the 10 Best City Hotels.

Shangri-La Sydney and the recently refurbished Hilton Sydney took out the second and third places behind rival Sofitel Melbourne.

"The Sydney hotels with harbour views have taken their rightly owned place in the top city hotels. The harbour is a drawcard that is hard to beat," says editor Greg Barton.

NSW took out a total of 27 of the 101 Best Hotels in Australia with the Sydney properties dominating. This was in contrast to Queensland where their major tourism destinations, the Gold Coast and Tropical North Queensland, dominated.

Australian Traveller also revealed its hidden gems - hotels and resorts that are not as big or well known as their larger rivals but offer unique and high quality experiences.

NSW's newest properties featured in this list of gems with Gerry Harvey's The Byron At Byron and Peppers Salt Resort & Spa selected. Chic city property The Establishment was also selected amongst the gems with Kim's Beach Hideaway on the central coast of NSW.

Melbourne hotels have been given the big thumbs up in the largest consumer survey of hotels.

Domestic tourism magazine Australian Traveller has published the list of 101 Best Hotels in Australia based on more than 74,000 consumer votes.

And iconic Melbourne inn Sofitel Melbourne has taken out the top spot in the Best City Hotel category, over NSW rivals the Shangri-La and Hilton Sydney.

Other top Melbourne hotels Grand Hyatt Melbourne and The Windsor have also earned consumer acclaim by being voted in the top 10 City Hotels in Australia.

The best hotel in Australia overall went to the well-awarded Crown Towers.
