Westin goes smoke-free

Westin Hotels and Resorts claims to be the first hotel chain to introduce a smoke-free policy in Australia and Fiji.

From July 31 the chain's hotels in Sydney, Melbourne and Fiji will become smoke free in public areas and all guest rooms.

The hotels will not only make a 12 month head-start on non-smoking legislation that will be introduced to Australia in July 2007, but will be exceeding the requirements by abolishing traditional 'smoking rooms'.

Outdoor smoking areas will be designated for guests who smoke.

Westin consumer data revealed 95 percent of its guests in this region request a non-smoking room when travelling and don't smoke in any area of the hotel, including public areas.

The new rules are in line with Westin's 77 North American hotels that introduced a smoke-free policy in January this year. - Travelpress travel news
