This THURSDAY 15 DECEMBER, Sydneysiders and visitors alike can
experience three exciting, new attractions in Sydney's birthplace and
Australia's most historic precinct - The Rocks Discovery Museum, The
Rocks Centre and Sydney Visitor Centre.
Located in a restored 1850s coach house on Kendall Lane, The Rocks
Discovery Museum is home to Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority's unique
collection of archaeological images and artefacts found in The Rocks. Visitors will be taken on a fun, interactive journey of discovery about
the area's traditional landowners, the establishment of the English
colony, the development of a thriving port town; through to the 1970s
union-led protests which preserved this unique part of Sydney for
future generations to explore and enjoy.
The Museum embraces interactive technology to bring the history of the
area alive and has been developed in close consultation with local
Aboriginal groups to tell their story regarding the impact of European
settlement. The Museum will be open seven days a week from 10am-5pm
(except on Good Friday and Christmas Day) and entry is FREE.
Adjacent to the Museum is the newly furbished Rocks Centre - a vibrant, lively hub for Sydney's historic old town quarter.
The Rocks Centre houses a range of restaurants, cafes, takeaway
outlets, boutique clothing, unique gift stores and other exciting
retailers. Browse the shops, sip on a coffee or enjoy a meal under the
shade canopy in the Centre's new open-air food court. The Rocks Centre
is located on the corner of Argyle and Playfair Streets and will be
open seven days week (except on Good Friday and Christmas Day), from
9am to 5pm.
Jump in the lift or take the escalators to the top floor and drop into
the enhanced Sydney Visitor Centre (SVC). Having relocated from George
Street in The Rocks, the spacious SVC offers a host of new services in
high-tech surroundings.
A virtual world features on five LCD screens highlighting tour
packages, promotions and events in and around Sydney. There's also an
internet lounge and you can look forward to a wider variety of
information services, a larger, dedicated retail section and
first-class tour and accommodation booking facilities.
The SVC also offers expert Visitor Services Advisors (and many are
multi-lingual), all of whom are committed to providing visitors with
the best information, service and experience possible.
The SVC will be open seven days a week from 9.30am to 5.30pm.
The Rocks Discovery Museum, The Rocks Centre and Sydney Visitor Centre are initiatives of Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. |
