Santa's Kingdom brings magic to Sydney

1. Cross the coat-hanger: It will cost you to climb it but crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge on foot is a fun-filled and free family adventure with superb photo opportunities.
2. Meander through the markets: A lively weekend buzz can be found at any of the city markets - try Paddington, Glebe, Bondi, Fox Studios and The Rocks.
3. Picnic in Centennial Park: Pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and enjoy Sydney's lush oasis of ponds, grassy hills and wood-lands in Centennial Park.
4. Have fun in Coney Island: Explore Sydney's Luna Park with free entry, rides for all ages and idyllically situated by the Harbour.
5. Hands-on with astronomy: Free astronomy displays by day at Australia's oldest existing observatory in The Rocks, Sydney Observatory.

Make a monster at the Australian Museum: A unique exhibition for summer - ‘How to make a Monster: the art and technology of animatronics' - runs until 5 March. The Museum's monster workshops teach kids a range of stimulating activities from designing and colouring their own monster jigsaw to learning the art of model-making and creating model monsters. Culture for big kids and small
Sydney is the place to be for the arts this summer, as Sydney Festival and Australia's largest impressionist exhibition comes to town. The good news is there are great programs and events to engage the kids - and even greater travel packages to get you there.

From the much-heralded Domain Series to the Streets Ferrython, Sydney Festival 2006 has a smorgasbord of cultural events for families. The great race south
Boxing Day marks the start of an icon of Australian summer sport, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. In its 61st year, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart is Australia's largest ocean race with yachts of all sizes and styles, as well as sailors from around the country and the world. Thousands of people will take a ringside seat on the Sydney Harbour foreshore to watch this year's exceptionally strong fleet of 95 yachts representing six countries. This year's 628 nautical mile journey south could be the fastest ever, with four 30 metre maxis entered and previous restrictions on speed lifted. Visitors can join the locals with their picnics and champagne as they cheer on the yachts from 1.20pm. For more information go to
