Student rail season tips

Students planning travel in Europe next year or for the Summer recess, can travel in three, four or five connecting UK-European countries by rail with a Eurail Selectpass which allows travel on five, six, eight, 10 or 15 days within two months.

For example, the five-days/three countries Eurail Selectpass costs $352 Youth (under 26) Fare, while travelling 15 days/five countries costs $784.

However, Rail Plus has a tip for students wishing to travel a little longer.

If combining Spain, France, Italy and Greece for instance, students may be better off buying two regional passes, rather than a Eurail Select 4 country pass. It will cost a few dollars more, but they get 2 x 2 month periods. If they are maximising their time away, two months may not meet the need.

A four-countries Eurail Selectpass for 10 days travel within two months is $577 for the Youth fare while Spain & France (5 days in 2 months) pass plus Italy & Greece (5 days in 2 months) pass costs $647.

The additional $70 buys two more months to check out the Greek Islands, says Rail Plus.
